Anybody cut a standard sim down in size to fit a micro-sim phone?

Easy or not worth the risk?

Very easy. Either use another micro sim or download a template to know where to cut.
Don't worry if you cut through the chip as it still works.

OP

Can you not just get a free micro sim from your provider?

Fast haggis - yes - that will my first option but I need it for Saturday to take to my daughter in Paris! Bloody kids!

If I don't get it in time I'll get her to cut the old one.

cheers

Most independent shops can just clip your old one.

Worth noting micro is often thinner as well...when I chopped my standard sim down, I sanded the back down as well

You can do it, but the phone may not like it. A SIM tray will work, a spring loaded slot probably won't

With EE I just popped into the nearest shop and had a new SIM in the correct size in about 5 minutes.

Call into your nearest mobile phone shop and ask for a micro sim, it'll cost about a £1.

I've cut several down with a pair of scissors, never had a problem.

Yeah easy. I've even cut one down to the "nano" size to fit an iPhone. I just used a template off the net, scored it with a sharp razor, snapped the edges off then lightly sanded with a emery board.

Just to check, Are you sure it isn't micro SIM ready? The last couple of Sims I've had have been normal size with a press out centre to make than micro.

Dead easy - I'm pretty inept and if I can do it without screwing up, anyone can.

Std and Micro are supposed to be the same thickness, nano are thinner.
