Anyone had this?
Suffered for about 3 months with this on both feet. Not easy trying to stay off your feet for any length of time especially in a physical job.
Tried various insoles anti inflammatories ice packs and rest but still in pain. What can I try next?
I had it. I sought out a podiatrist and had a set of orthotics made after having everything analysed. They were fantastic. Also I was able to get them re-moulded as the condition improved. After a time I went back again and got a thinner set made for use in my riding shoes. I also had a set of crutches knocking about that I used to take the pressure off when getting out and about. Bar tape on the handles and flexyfoot ferrules and away I went. Coupled with a pair of Hoka Clifton trainers I did a half marathon using that set up. Nearly 10 years on I still get the odd twinge every now and then but think it's more of a "legacy" than anything else as day to day I have no issues. It is something that needs looking at properly by a podiatrist and a set of proper custom orthotics won't be cheap but they will be what you need. Do not underestimate the value of some crutches though, they take so much weight off and give you a workout if you're that way inclined. And shoes, comfortable shoes. No more Converse for me and I buy my own work boots rather than the stuff supplied through work.
Their early stuff is definitely better.
Thanks for the reply. I have had a set of custom insoles done but my podiatrist stuck a raised piece on the underside of insoles behind the painful part of my foot to try and relieve some pressure but I’m struggling to get on with them so back onto a 3/4 length insole with raised heal, seems to be more comfortable, I’m back at podiatrist next week so will see what she thinks.
Been told to avoid flat soled shoes. I need to safety boots at work and switched to Dewalt safety shoes that seem a bit better. Finding it hard as not walking as much as normal and feel cycling painful, weights creeping up!
Well the insoles won't get rid of the problem overnight and they will feel weird/borderline uncomfortable. However they may need a bit of tweaking. A tiny adjustment here or there could make a world of difference. Stuck with it. A good podiatrist is worth more than anything here (assuming she is good but I'm sure she is).
Re flat soles shoes, yep that's them out. I invested in some Hoka trainers and they were superb, the slight rocker shape to the sole really helped with easing pressure. I'm also using DeWalt boots for work, the Titanium ones. As far as work boots go they are super comfy and I can manage long walks in them no issues. I appreciate you're nowhere near that at the mo.
Honestly though, get some crutches. You'll be surprised how much of a workout you'll get if you start careering around on them. The first time I was on crutches (dislocated foot) my mate was up from uni. We were in the pub most nights and I managed to get buff by walking there and back on me sticks. Seriously, invest. Tape up the handles, flexy ferrules amd even a pair of cheap padded crying gloves.and away you go. Don't let it stop you.
