Our new boss, in his own words, to raise morale, has brought forward the date of the pending redundancies. He said this with a big smile, obviously expecting applaus. Any other class nuggets out there?

Would that not be a good thing? Means all can move on assuming it's a bullet that would need to be bit anyway and those left can get on without the worry and stress of a possible redundancy?

Those going might well even get an extra sweetener out of it.

I had two years with redundancies hanging over my dept and it was horrible. I got another job in the end (even though i didn't want to leave)
Better to have it out the way IMHO

The boss could have been a bit less chipper obvs

We have a 'manager' who always has an inane grin on his face. he came on the wing last week & was approached by a prisoner who's gran had been given days to live, he smiled all the way through the episode & I'm surprised he didn't get a smack off the con. Horrible bloke. (not the con, he's just nuts)

Other side of the fence here - got called into a meeting with the three directors yesterday for a confidential chat to say the company is to be wound up in it's current form. Me/my role/skills/knowledge are critical to several of the key projects, so if I want to choose carry on, then the plan would be for the four of us to go it alone. If I chose to go elsewhere then we would all go our separate ways. They want a decision by Monday morning so they can start the process and make an announcement either way.

Either way, I'll be OK, but on so many levels I feel like shit, esp walking around knowing all this and my other 6 colleagues have not a scooby what is going on behind the scenes. Bad times 🙁

Oh gosh, I'm not adopting the moral high ground here - I'm not a model employee certainly. And yes, the prospect of finalization of crapness would be nice. However, the mode of delivery by senior management these days at our place is one of a cat that's finished with a mouse. "Hey, although you're dead, that was fun! We should do it again sometime."

The most insulting thing about the consultation I'm currently undergoing is the package. Statutory. 🙄

On the plus side my role appears to have been mapped to the new org structure, however my primary responsibilities appear to be getting farmed out to another team. All this without any new job descriptions being issued.

So one way or another, it appears I'll be leaving.

Anyone know of UNIX/Linux Administrator contracts going in the Edinburgh area?
