[Closed] Medical question: mucus-y throat

In the summer, I started to get a lot of mucus build up in my throat, I was hacking up filth and seemed to have a constant stream of grot running down my throat. I went to the doc who put it down to my hayfever, which I didn't agree with as I'd never had any similar issues before. He gave my some nasal spray which excaserbated the problem, so I stopped using it. I returned to the doc who insisted there was no issue, keep taking anti-histamines and a course of steroids and it would sort itself out once my hayfever cleared up.

Eventually, it did clear up, but as of about a week ago, it's come back. I'm constantly clearing my throat, but just can't shift it. I was gargling with TCP previously, which helped, but may just have been masking the issue and giving the wife the boak due to the smell.

Anyone had any similar experiences?

Spit!

offers temporary relief only, and is gross.

Doesn't help with the irritation of the throat [noted by the doc.]

Interesting, thank you. I think I'm going to visit the doc again. Armed with a little knowledge.

i seem to get phlegmy/mucusy if i eat dairy foods (butter/milk/cheese).

this may or may not be the cause of your problem...

You sure its not tracheitis or some other upper respiratory tract infection triggered by your hayfever or cold?

A little knowledge indeed!

A - it doesn't sound like sinusitis (though it could be, but unlikely based on the information given here)
B - unless you have a fever and pus coming from your sinuses, the treatment of sinusitis in the first 5 days is steroid nasal spray, not antibiotics.....

Might be post nasal drip?

This sounds more likely actually. I think the doc used this term before, but put it down to my hayfever.

Anyone got any thoughts on neti pots?

not helpful at all but I'm slightly tickled by the idea of awhiles' dairy eating habits being the cause of your problems
