Please STOP these lazy linking threads. They are getting really tedious.

This is a discussion forum, not Twitter or Facefart.

Please consider writing something - maybe of your thoughts on a particular topic -
not just providing a lazy link to something you read on the internet - and expecting people to discuss it for you.

Mind-numbingly dull.

Do have to type 'OMG" before clicking on the link to see something amazing?

I think you miss the point.

In your edit above you are still simply lazy-linking to a Guardian article and expecting someone firstly click and open the link and provide a comment. It's lazy and completely undermines the point of this forum.

You could say something like..

'I just read this really interesting analysis by Steven Pinker in the Guardian [link]. He provides some interesting counterpoint views on the commonly-held assumption that the world is getting more violent. I am not sure I agree with him because of X and X, but perhaps some of you will have different opinions'

How about that?

Completely agree with the optically challenged cervine I'm afraid. It's not STW policy but I'm giving serious consideration to applying the 'lazy links' clause in use on the Classifieds to the Chat forum also and just deleting them on sight. What do other readers think?

Does that mean we could just quote random snippets without even providing a source so as to boggle, befuddle and enrage?

I think that's the greatest thing you've ever posted. (-:

What do other readers think?

Considering the hostile reaction to slowoldman's "lazy-linking" I'm surprised to learn that the world has apparently become a less violent place.

The no lazy linking in the classifieds is stupid, though as it makes it laborious to re-post ads. Here, I have no strong feelings either way, other than thinking it's a bit odd to post a link to a story and then not say why you feel it deserves attention.

Isn't it self-explanatory why the story might deserve attention ?

Or is it just me who thought, what with the greatest refugee crises since WW2, that the world was perhaps becoming more violent ?

Er.....depending on the thread title and the content I think it *might* be perfectly fine to "lazy link". Something like ....

Thread title

The Queen is DEAD!

Then this content
HRH DIES IN BIZARE CORGI RELATED AUTO ASFIXIATION PLOT
Followed by this smiley
😯

Not necessarily, I can't read the OP's mind. I will have my own views on the story but why post something without stating your views on the matter?

As I said, I don't really have any strong feelings on the matter so I couldn't really care either way.

I don't think you require mind-reading skills to figure out why this story might deserve attention.

why does posting a link require a discussion ? you can post a link because you think it may interest/amuse/educate others on the forum. It may be lazy not to give a 1000 word precis on your thoughts and feeling of the said link. Does every link posted afterward requre 200 word explaination or will "see the daily mash nails it again" do ?
