Has anyone used this site, do you have to carry an iphone type device with you.

What is the easiest way to calculate how far I have ran or cycled, as google maps sometimes doesn't have the routes.

Do Nike make a thing you stick in your shoe?

Nike plus you're looking for.

Personally I find SportsTracker (iPhone, Symbian, soon Android) more than adequate for all my needs.

mapmyride has an app for Android. And you can map your own using their map or upload a gps file. Assume mapmyrun is the same.

I use WalkJogRun, don't need to carry anything, just plot points on the map. It'll work out your speed, pace and calories burned too.

I've been using http://www.mapmytracks.com (not related to mapmyrun) which you can use with their iPhone app "OutFront" or you can use anything that produces a GPX file and add it to your exercise log by just emailing it to a special address.

I'll have a look at nike plus.

I think I have confused the matter I don't want to carry an iphone or any phone running.

The problem with mapping a run is they tend to only have roads not some of the paths and fields I sometimes choose to cross.

You could always carry one of these:

As recently reviewed in a well-known mountain bike magazine.

Only 20g so not likely to slow you down too much 😀

Can't you use mapmyrun on the satellite map option (it's Google maps satellite images) and work out/plot your route from that?

The apps people are offering up above require you to carry a gps (be it iPhone, other phone / device).

You can run the Nike+ sensor thingy paired with some special Nike watch thing too .. not sure what it buys you, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't record the actual route, only distance.

tails, some of my runs do as well, WalkJogRun uses google maps so it's dead easy to plot.

doesn't mapmyride have a open maps option that shows bridleways and footpaths?

Are there any running forums like STW?

mapmyrun lets you plot points over any route you like, just turn off the 'follow roads' option in the toolbar. It uses Google maps so you can use the satellite images to make it easier plotting off-road routes.

It's a good & accurate tool for measuring distances but way off for elevation and calories.
