Not a snipe at you Mike, but it's that parochial "so long as we beat Sunderland/Man U" attitude that is one limiting factor for Newcastle.

It's not, and honestly having stood there on wet nights beating teams in Europe mid week and hitting the top end of the table year in year out the only time the so long as we beat the mackems line comes out is when there is nothing else to play for.
Ashley does just enough to keep it going, he's waiting for the big money owner to arrive and pay him out. Hence selling the good players. I don't lay it all at the door of Pardew but he's not the best. Maybe it's time for some fresh ideas but they will get nowhere when the manager is not allowed in the room for the transfer talks.

that is one limiting factor for Newcastle.

I thought it was more Ashely's perfect contentment with anything other than relegation being just dandy.

I had big hopes for Charlie Austin this season - how's he looking? Not scoring me many points in the fantasy team, but is that him or QPR not supplying the chances? (I've not had chance to see them play yet)

He doesn't get the service in away games. While we have played two teams in Spuds and Manure who are going to be in the top six come the end of the season, two 4-0 defeats points to the tactics redknapp is employing away from home.

NUFC should be giants - support, history etc. It's a shame - would love them to be challenging.

It is, in reality just the last big club not bought by a billionaire

Seeing as Mike Ashley has made a statement saying he's definitely not selling, that surely means thats exactly what he's after doing. Will it revert back to St James's Park, or will it forever be known as the 2 Trackies for a Tenner Stadium? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think the naming rights were bought by someone who did just that. He's deflecting offers until they are performing well. He's investing avoid relegation and hoping to sell at UEFA qualified prices.

I'd be excited if I was a united fan, the vast amount of quality attacking talent that they have is bound to pay off, de Maria, Falcao, RVP, Mata, Herrera, even januzaj is a smashing player. Chelsea are showing that you can fit all these players into a team, and don't have to adhere to the usual claptrap about needing big strong midfielders all over the place.

Van Gaal won't be long in getting them playing how he wants.

Binners, agreed. Always love to see a Terry own goal!.

Nobeerinthefridge - bang on! The thing about the best United teams in the past is that the goals could come from anywhere. You had a whole team who of players who could bang them in on a good day. Not just relying on traditional strikers. And how do you defend against that? With great difficulty!

Thats why it was refreshing to see 4 different players scoring yesterday. The way things should be at Old Traffiord! ๐Ÿ˜€

I've just had a look at the original post in this thread

The thing that I find funny is that Man Utd have shorter odds for winning the title than Liverpool.

Still looking funny? ๐Ÿ™‚

It's not looking good. Especially compared to how Sanchez has started.

Sanchez workrate on Saturday was incredible. He looked awesome. He must have covered some serious distance!!! But all it did was highlight what a bone idle **** Ozil is!

In other news, best beard of the weekend went to Ben Hamer of Leicester.

Ashley apparently also owns the naming rights for Rangers' Ibrox ground, even owns 9% of the clubs shares. So there could be two clubs with grounds called 2 Trackies for a Tenner Stadium.

You can't read much into ManU's weekend win as QPR are beyond dire. Having lost to ManU, Spurs, Hull and Burton, since the start of the season and only scored 1 goal, which was in their only win so far against Sunderland.

The fact that Man U beat newly promoted QPR 4-0 is news says a lot about where Man U are. They have to score 4 every week to have a chance of a result against anyone with a clue, its the defense that needs sorting.

NUFC should be giants - support, history etc. It's a shame - would love them to be challenging.

Who wants to go to Newcastle though, their ability to get decent players in compromises their ability. Plus the ungracious fans don't appreciate what Ashley has put into the club and suffer permanent delusions of grandeur. In the 40 years I've been following football they've always struggled as also rans.

Costas looks like a steal, I hope he stays fit and Althletico did Real again - nice !

Jambalaya - at least LVG has abandoned the 3 at the back nonsense, which a team like City or Chelski would simply rip apart. The reason for optimism was how dangerous we look up front. Which we just didn't look at all last season. You just wondered where the goals were going to come from. They didn't. Thats looking very different now. He's got bags of attacking options, as the players he's signed can play in a multitude of positions

But I agree that with the defence we've got at present, its going to have to be the Kevin Keegan school of football. Going out to score more than the opposition put past you. It'll be interesting to see the scoreline for the Chelski game. It sure aint going to be nil nil.

In the 40 years I've been following football they've always struggled as also rans.

Seeing as I've already referred to Kev, its always worth watching this again ๐Ÿ˜†

He'll do a Forlan. Or a reverse-Torres, if you like. Couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo for us (though created plenty) then went to Villa Real (IIRC?) and was the highest scorer in La Liga the following season. Hernandez always knew where the net was when he was a super sub, but always struggled when he started games

I'm not too sure. City seem unstoppable with Costa and Fabregas, but City have a habit of turning up and quietly demolishing teams. Depends whether Yaya turns up for City, and Costa starts for City as his injury issues seem to be appearing again.

I have been drinking.

Liverpool shipped loads of goals last season, but scored more. Looks like they're adhering to one half of that strategy this season. Normality has returned. 7th. If they're lucky.

My money's on city tomorrow. I just haven't decided which yet.

I do hope Draxler comes to Arsenal, as has been rumoured. Just what we need, another tricksy midfielder.

As an aside, I do like the gfycat url naming scheme....

On the plus side Jamie... Ozil showed up for a few minutes. The new Berbatov? Score, then spend the rest of the match in a deck chair, smoking Gitanes and reading poetry?

I think Berbs had a bit more strength. Ozil looks like he is about to shatter.

In other news, this is a cracking article about Felix Magath.

Jamie - can we have a gif of Di Maria's goal please? ๐Ÿ˜€

Looking great going forward. Sublime passes for both goals. But it's looking like the usual keystone cops affair at the back. Oh well. Kevin Keegan football it is then. I think we might come a little bit unstuck with that at some point.
