Does the coffee need "tamping" down before being put on the hob?

Nope as it gets shoved up to the top when making, although folk will do it to tell you it tastes better.

most important rule IMO is not to wash it. Rinse and dry only.

The coffee oil gets into the aluminium and stops it tainting the coffee.

i thought not then i read about "tamping" to make stronger coffee. As you were then fellas 🙂

BTW don't put it in the dishwasher - strips off the finish.

Replace the rubber seal regularly too...
