Powerful magnet, length of rope, canal. Anyone delved into the hinterland of magnet fishing? If so what's your set up? What have you found?

Hi Lambchop, i think this subject has already been aired recently and on the back of that i bought a magnet off Ebay.
I haven't used it in anger yet, but will report on any good finds. The problem is there are no canals round here, but lots of rivers, in my mind i'm going to find Excalibur, the reality is i'll just find rusty old scrap.
My magnet is a 200kg jobbie, set the microwave off as i walked through the kitchen door. :0
