I need to get some testing rigs made up for some ISO adhesive tests. These will consist of a recessed 'well' in a piece of sheet PMMA, and an slightly smaller diam. cylinder, also PMMA, which will fit into the well. You fill the well with adhesive, push the cylidner in with a known force, leave for a prescribed period and then measure the force to withdraw. Simples.
I can buy the plate and cylinder PMMA easily, but will any local engineering firm be able to machine in the recess into the plate and tap a screw thread into the cylinder (so i can attach a tensile tester to it), or do I need a specialist engineering firm?
Dead easy for anyone with a lathe and mill - I machine plastics all the time.
