One of my daughters has dropped the macbook off the couch and damaged the screen. I took it to apple and they wanted £479!!!!!!! I think that included the case too which has a small dent but I'm not really bothered about that. Just need to replace the LCD but don't know where to go for such a thing. Anyone done anything similar and how did they get it repaired?

Do you have accidental damage cover on your house insurance ?
If yes make a claim and let them worry about it .
Google for independent mac repairers.
do it yourself, it'll be easy enough. just need to find somewhere that'll sell you a screen for cheapness. (Cost me 40 quid for a pc screen, but that wasn't a great screen, I'd imagine apple screens will cost quite a bit more.)
£400 laptop?

Sounds like a better option tbh and just plug the macbook in to an external screen and turn it into a desktop! 😆

This. I can recommend Analogic if you're anywhere near Kingston.
Also - you've got 3500 unread emails! how does anybody live like that? 😛
I read them all in gmail on my phone so they have been viewed.
unsurprisingly, apple screens look like a bit more flaff(apple always are, I'm fairly experienced at pulling apart imacs, laptops look more invloved that that even). still doable though.
What's the model number of the mac?

Some people just want to watch the world burn.
