We will be in touch
My son is preparing to sell his iMac and has done the 35 pass disk reformat. He has tried to reinstall OS X (Leopard) but has hit a problem.
The process takes him to the language screen, he chooses English but then it comes up with an error message to the effect that OS X cannot be installed.
Any ideas what he can do? (Apart of course from taking the thing back to an Apple shop or getting support from Applecare - which I accept he may have to do).
Has he partitioned the disk? You might need to open disk utility and give the disk a partition.

Thanks...I'll check
Same problem when a partition has been set up.
Couple of things I can think of...
1. Is the partition the right type - there will be some options but they tell you what type of computer they work for. Make sure you're using the appropriate type for the boot partition on that computer.
2. What model is the computer? Are you using a copy of Leopard older than the computer? If you try to use a retail Leopard install rather than the install discs with the computer, you will have problems if the computer was released after the Leopard version was created. You might need to use the recovery disks with the computer, or try to get hold of a copy of Snow Leopard if you're on an intel system.. (if you're a MobileMe customer, they'll send you a copy for free 🙂
Other than that, no idea, I'm afraid. Do you get any error messages (or rather, what do they say)?
The Leopard install came with the computer. We have a spare copy of Snow Leopard so may give that a try.
I'll check the error message out and let you know.
Ta.
