just a question re: software.. on a pc i use dvd fab5..what is there on mac that enables DVD to Mac then from Mac to DVD?

Try 'Mac the Ripper', or 'RipIt'. Followed by the built in Disc Utility, or something easier on the eye such as 'Disco' to burn.
I think 'Handbrake' does the whole thing in one go provided you have added the decryption files from 'Mac the Ripper'.
Edit: RipIt does the whole job, but does cost.
