Had a bit of an embarrassing moment last night! I've been on a low-carb diet for about 10 days. I got bored of it last night and had some toast, but after eating it when I stood up I fainted. Only out for an instant, but I did fall over.
I'm pretty sure it is the low-carb that caused it and internet seems to back that up, but being a bloke I don't necessarily want to waste the time of the doc. I've backed off the low-carb side of things so I'm going to see if it happens again, in which case I'll be straight off to the doctor, but has this happened to anyone else?
No.. but then I do slow-carb rather than low carb.
I get light headed a lot, especially in the evening after a hard days training. I put it down to hydration levels.
As above, i get quite light headed sometimes, I put it down to slightly low blood pressure and generally upping my activity levels over the last 6 months.
Reading your post again though maybe you had some bad toast 😀
Probably just because you stood up too quickly
was the toast from rye bread?... just wondering
Regardless of carbs or anything,if I miss a meal you had better wheel me off to a&e. Due to a night flight recently I missed eating and I reckon it took me 2 days to get over it and that's with stuffing myself silly when I got home.
My doctor says that I am just one if those people.
No.. but then I do slow-carb rather than low carb.
You can't help but post on these threads even to say "I've no idea" 😀
ive had lots of dizzy spells since getting fitter, my resting heart rate has regularly been as low as 42bpm, and being a big chap, when I stand up it seems to take a while for the blood to get back up to my head..hence dizzy spell.
Ive also been on low GI, low sugars for months now, and at first the dizzy spells were more common. I expect your blood sugar levels are still stabalizing, and eating bread threw them out of whack.
Dont give up on low carb if you have a genuine reason to try it. My GP said 'stand up slowly'.
I've never experienced fainting and have been on a very low carb diet for months. A friend recently started eating the same way and experienced headaches for a couple of weeks before his body got used to it.
Thank you for the replies - as you'll have guessed I was just looking for a bit of reassurance.
As for "bad toast". There's no such thing.
Oh, and if you feel light headed when you stand up, lean forward at the waist... the feeling instantly goes.
