Anyone care to give me some ideas for a low calorie, low fat lunch that will give me lots of energy for my 20 mile ride home. Usually eat sandwiches but getting bored of them.

During winter I carry a small camelbak so have space to carry a sealed plastic box so could take cold pasta for example. I don't need a huge lunch, just something different.

Ideas welcome, constructive ones please - I don't want to eat pies, crisps, pizza, greggs sausage roll etc. Well I do but I try to resist.

The calorie is the unit of energy. So no.

Amphetamines?

I might be being a bit thick here, but how can a low calorie lunch give you lots of energy??

Anyhoo - some kind of couscous salad maybe?

EDIT: Need to type faster! 🙂

Don't know if it has to be high calorie does it? Okay 'reasonably low in calories' then.

Just chomping through a bucket of butter beans, chick peas, mackerel, chillies, tomatoes, cucumber and cous cous, all washed down with a pint of water.

rocket fuel mate

assuming you have biked the 20 miles in to work as well as wanting to ride home I would have thought you need quite a lot of calories/energy.

To stay healthy as opposed to low energy you want complex carbs as you have implied instead of sugary or fatty stuff.

Pasta etc is hassle IMHO.

stick with the butties but vary what you put in them.
vedgi pate is excellent, egg, left over roast from the w/e, some good salady stuff.

Not really, I've been doing it for about 4 years so my body is used to it. I don't feel the need to eat fast quantities of food - couple of slice of toast, coffee, fruit juice for breakfast, lunch, yogurt when I get home, then a 'normal' dinner with a glass of milk.

I'm a low energy kinda guy 😉

Have a E. loads of energy, the traffic lights would be " entertaining " then if any car drivers get out and want to lamp you one, surprise them by giving them a big hug. 😆

I thought it was the Whizz that gave you the energy (or at least helps you to use up what energy your body has to offer) and the E was the stuff for getting loved up?

Jacket spud and beans (if your works have a microwave which mine and the last 3 places I have worked have had)? Soups of varying types. Pasta with a basic tom sauce?

Much to choose from especially if you do have a microwave to hand. Flask for soup otherwise? a 40 mile ride a day would give me free reign to eat what I wanted. But I'm a medium energy type of git.

I've got chickpeas (half carton), tomatoes (half carton), some chili, basil, orageno, simmered for 5-10minutes, added a tin of tuna.

Lots of protein, no/minimal carbs, and the spices increace your body temperature meaning you burn off some calories just sat still.

Debating the long way home tonight. On the one hand it's on average quieter roads, but does involve as many busy ones as the direct route, I could do with the exercise, but if I take the short route I'll definately go spinning as well and probbaly a swim afterwards.

Decisions decisions...........

Dont we need some carbs at lunchtime? I get starving in the afternoon if I dont have a decent lunch.

I'm eating lovely fajita Buritos twice a week. Brown rice, peppers, chicken breast, little bit of cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, rolled up in flat bread. Heaven.

I'm very seldom very very hungry and never 'starving'. I don't like eating a big lunch as I don't need it. Some good ideas here. I do have access to a microwave but I don't want to start bringing spuds and beans to work.

You want carbs, you don't want fast carbs.

Spuds are very fast carbs.

Do you buy or make your lunches?

I had a delicious 4 bean salad from Sainsbury's yesterday.

This stuff:

http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1321543544385

They also do a nice mushroom pasta one & a spinach & pine nut one but they are a bit fattier.

You could make your own using their ingredients easily enough.

I make my own lunches usually but can buy sandwiches and stuff in work. But I do prefer to make my own.

The calorie is a pre-SI metric unit of energy. It was first defined by Nicolas Clément in 1824 as a unit of heat, entering French and English dictionaries between 1841 and 1867.[1] In most fields its use is archaic, having been replaced by the SI unit of energy, the joule. However, in many countries it remains in common use as a unit of food energy.

Hard to be low calorie and high calorie..
