I've bought a sofa off Gumtree and I'm looking to pick it up this weekend.

Any white-van drivers on here whose services I could hire?

Have you got any City Car Club or Streetcar vans near you? Rent by the hour.....

Yeah - but there is a joining fee, and I think I'll only need it once.

Thanks tho.

Not sure there is a joining fee.

B&Q hire out vans cheap by the hour.

I think Streetcar you do, yes..... CCC you don't (or the other way round) - or you can hire vans from B+Q by the hour, but the cost is a bit more overall.

EDIT: You mind reader, Al.... 😉

Cheers - I'll have a look at CCC and B&Q. (Streetcar is £59.50/yr)

I see CCC is £50/yr as well for private hire (presumably cars and vans), so off to B+Q with you for a one-off or follow the link.....

I'm in CCC cost-free, I did pay monthly for a bit though.

Al - yes, I am sure it used to be free, but I've just checked as I have been meaning to sign up and, for the van hire at least, it's £50 a year to join. Darn. I guess if Streetcar are doing it then CCC can do it as well......

Fair enough, I'm not sure if I can hire vans on it...

OP would an estate not do it?

3-seater sofa bed. 2m long. I reckon it's a bit chunky for an estate.

I just moved some furniture from Glasgow to Edinburgh using www.anyvan.com. You just put in your requirements and then companies send you quotes. The idea being that if a van has some spare space they can make a bit of extra cash carrying something else and offer you a slightly cheaper price. Might not work with a sofa but worth a try, there's no obligation to buy and the movers we got were very good.

could you not just use gumtree like you did to find said sofa?

Possibly try www.shiply.com?

You put in the load you want carried, the start and end location and specific dates if necessary, then men with vans bid for the work.

I've had good luck with it in the past.

Edit after reading thread properly: Oh, exactly like anyvan above, I guess!
