Long story... Just wondering if there are any kind souls in the Market Harbotough area who might have a spare Cisco console cable. Also known as a rollover cable, or rs232 to rj45.

Your be saving my bacon if you can help

If you're in a comms room / data centre, I'd be having a good look around. Nearly always one to be found somewhere!

Had a good look on maplin and couldn't see the adapter.

Yep Piedi - I normally have a bag full of them and keep tripping over them in the comms rooms. As luck would have it, the one day mine breaks, they seem to be like hens teeth.

PC World, then.

I got bored of carrying half a mile of cabling with me, so I made up a bunch of adapters for various things. If I need a rollover cable I just grab the nearest patch cable and slap it into an adapter.

Think we all have 50% of the solution - I reckon those cables breed like tribbles in my Cabinet of Useful Things but I'm nowhere near Mrket Harborough either sorry!

Any other devices around with console cables attached to them? Must be something lurking in a cabinet surely Shirly?

Few years ago I used to moan about how much stuff Cisco used to pack in the boxes that I used to end up throwing away....now....oh what I'd give for a spare couple of consoles cables 🙂

Happy hunting.

RS was my first port of call yesterday. They seemed to have every combination of adapter and cable except for the ones I needed. I placed an order with misco last night and paid extra for pre-10.30am delivery, more in desperation than expectation To my astonishment it actually turned up at 9am this morning. Very impressed! So I now consider myself to have got out of jail free (if £40 for a console cable can be considered free).

Growlinglad, this is the only place I've ever been that is 100% tidy with absolutely nothing just sitting around. It also used to bother me that we'd have to throw away dozens of console cables every week. Always nagged at me cos I somehow knew there would come a day when I needed a spare.
