I have a desktop running Vista x64 and Lightroom 2, and a new Macbook with a trial version of LR3 on it. Obviously, I want to use the Macbook on the move, and do the bulk of my work on the PC. Is there a way I can do this?
Obviously one option is to upgrade the PC to LR3. The main reason I don't want to do this is that in about 6 months time I'll probably be switching to a mac, so don't want to waste money on windows software. I know any edits I do in LR3 on the Macbook won't carry, but I can obviously export the finished JPEGs back to the PC. Does anyone know for sure whether the original RAW files will remain untouched by LR3, so I can use them in LR2 should I need to? Or is it safer to make a copy before playing in LR3?
Doesn't Lightroom come with Windows and Mac versions on the same disc, and a licence that allows you to install on two machines? To the best of my knowledge that's the case, in which case you can just buy LR3 and be done. Check the licensing info online or in your LR2 box.
Good thinking batman! I'll do that ๐
EDIT: Done that - you're correct, that was easier than I had imagined!
