We will be in touch
Just had the most amazing lightning storm, continuous rumbling, sheet and fork lightning, but no wind or rain, yet it smelt like wet tarmac.
Welsh borders near Oswestry

We've had our for the last hour or so. Didn't manage any good photos but just stood in the back garden watching it for a while.
Getting closer now, good big rumbles.
I can see and hear what's going on over the Lakes, and I can see how much activity there is in Wales on the lightning maps. Looks like it's slowly moving up towards me. Last time there was a storm overhead it knocked out the security on my distillery, which wasn't fun 🙁
Can see it in the distance over Blackpool way from Preston.
Looking at the radar we are due a hefty downpour at 0300 so might get some lightning with that.

Hmmmm, knocked out all security on my distillery you say?................
The locks and CCTV still worked, in case you're wondering, and I live 5 seconds from the place too 😉
Nothing here in Kent at the mo.
Bloody Uttar shots there op!👍
Did you take stills from a video?
Sitting downstairs with terrified dog so at least the rest of the family can get some shut eye- dog’s trying to get in everyone’s bed. Constant lighting and rumbling thunder here in North Lakes.
Nice shooting, Tex.
Did you know that fork lightning doesn't strike the ground? As it gets a couple of hundred metres from the ground three or so 'streamers' emerge from the ground and the lightning bolt chooses which one to connect to.
I know this because I witnessed it from my high rise balcony a few years back, when a bolt of lightning emerged from the ground from a lamp post in the car park below but didnt connect, stalling about 100 metres from the ground. We moved inside after that.
That's why it's called fork lightning I guess. A handle and three or four prongs. Wonder what they called fork lightning before they invented forks?
I'm in Lincoln; nothing here.
Nothing ever happens here.
Headline in today's useless online rag...we try food from 1 star hygiene rated take-aways.
Bunch of **** half-wits; the ratings are for hygiene, not taste of the take-away slop.
If I could be bothered to rant I would but living in Lincoln drains every bit of life so...I'm leaving soon.
I'm in Blackpool, it's been doing it constantly for the post 4 hours!
Rumbling away here to the NW of Madrid, and yesterday it even rained - first proper rain I've seen in a couple of months!
Temperatures have gone down, too. Bonus 🙂
I wish the temp had dropped here in N London. 32 degrees in our bedroom last night, one of the kids isn’t sleeping she’s up and down, I hate being all hot an clammy all night. Only another 3 days to go....

You lucky bugger. Didcot is my hellhole.
Well that was relentless! I think it all started about 10-10:30. Just constant flashing and a constant low rumble. The intensity picked up and up, eventually there was one massive crack of thunder that woke our four year old up which meant she ended up in our bed for a bit. I think it probably lasted about 6 hours. There must be some flooding locally, the amount of rain it put down was unreal. Quite unusual weather for us, we can be quite isolated on the fylde coast, a lot of stuff passes us by.
Nice pics, never known a storm like it, killed our house phone, nearest strikes were maybe 500m away LOUD and scary!
We had about fifteen minutes of heat lighting about 23:30. Defined as lightning without accompanying thunder. It was like the beginning of the Tom Cruise version of WotW.Eerily impressive.
Look it up, I'm busy.
Eddiebaby,
Being from round that way myself, I thought that Didcot was locally referred to as 'The armpit of South Oxfordshire' rather than a hell hole?

I rather stupidly rode over the South Downs with a couple of mates a few years ago, whilst there was a storm going on. Bolts of fork lightning which appeared to be out at see, so we thought there was no real danger.
I can't describe the shock, I literally got, when lightning hit a metal pole (car park height barrier) that was less than 4ft away from me. I got a big jolt off it, went in my left shoulder and out my left index finger which was covering my rear brake at the time.
To say we left the scene a bit sharpish would be one hell of an understatement!
