Mr Choules remembered WWI as a "tough" life, marked by occasional moments of extreme danger.

Understatement of the century, what a man.

Sounds like a top bloke.

Refused to attend Aussie WW remembrance events, would go for weeks without speaking to people.

A life so long it goes back into history - remarkable. Very warming to see that he spent almost all of it with his wife.

They played a bit of an interview with him on 5 Live this morning. He was relentlessly upbeat saying what an absolutely wonderful life he'd had.

Top bloke. RIP

I heard that interview too Binners, I was listening to this in the car with my 7 year old and my 15 year old (who has been set on being a Royal Marine for the last two years). I tried to explain to the younger one the significance of his passing. We all owe him and many many others like him, an enormous debt of gratitude.

A subtle but important day for everyone. WWI has just passed from our collective living memory.

Helluva good innings. RIP.

I raised this as a discussion at lunch - shocking how many of my (18-26 year old) staff assumed that everyone from WW1-era was dead...

Rest in peace.
