Signed up to Plusnet over 1 month ago, still yet to receive the service which i signed up for (broadband and phone). Asked to cancel as they have had long enough. I was told i cant because im in contract as i am receiving the phone line, i said im not in contract as i signed up for phone and broadband and i am not yet receiving phone and broadband. Their t's and c's say 'You may cancel your agreement for Plusnet Fibre by contacting us at any time up until the fibre service start date'

I think im in the right to cancel without penalty. Do you?

If that's what their terms and conditions say then I would think you'll be fine. My own experience of Plusnet in the past when I used their service at my work premises has been very positive. I'm considering switching to them at home.

Their opinion is that because i am receiving the phone line, i am now contradctually obliged. I dispute this!

Then write to them cancelling as of now, quoting their T&C. And phone up to confirm who you should write to.

But, is it because they are waiting for Openreach to connect you up, if so its out of their 'hands'. Also expect to wait for whoever else you decided to go with.

I'd still wait it out if I was you. Not sure of any better providers you could sign up to, plus as your waiting for BT anyway you'll probably just go to the back of the queue but with a new ISP

I appreaicte the product probably is very good. But, i wasted a days holiday waiting for an engineer to turn up, i dont really want to waste another. I was with Virgin previously and they do not need to visit my house to reinstate my service.

Also although it may not be Plusnets fault (ie its Openreach), the agreement is with Plusnet, thus they are responsible!

Did you have (BT based)fibre previously? Otherwise there'll be changes to be made in the house.

Unless you go back to virgin you'll still be waiting for BT, but with a less helpful ISP

Obliged to what? Stick with a service you have yet to receive?

Your rights are what you have put in your OP - tell em to bollox in writing (not literally obviously) and tell them you will be cancelling the direct debit.

Don't use the phone line either then they have no comeback.

My friend cancelled paying his dd on his internet contract after 6 months of crap service and them not doing much to fix it. He had records of all calls (recorded and had written lots of letters). He wrote telling them why he had stopped paying and he was cancelling his contract. They sent threatening letter, debt collection agencies threatening court action, which he was relishing he desperately wanted to go to court. In then end it just went quiet.

They did put a bad mark on his credit file, but he wrote to the agencies threatening them with defamation (or whatever it is) and thy removed them.

Caveat - he is a barrister, specialising in litigation..

I paid to get out of a plusnet contract and went to BT (who own plusnet).

Worth every penny...

Cancel in writing. Dispute any charges that come may through and if you have to, send it off to the Ombudsman. Seems fairly open and shut to me.

So you moved from BT to BT with Indian call centres and that's a good move?

No, I moved from a business which is owned by BT to BT itself and have never had to use the call centre because the service works. Unlike the service I got from Plusnet.

Funnily enough that is the exact opposite of my experience with BT and PlusNet

Also seems he has time on his hands, I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle....

Have you got a date for the fibre install?, ask them to provide adsl service until openreach can install?

Did you have virgin fibre or adsl beforehand, as mentioned above Openreach is the hold up here, so if you cancel you'll go to the back of their queue and unless your actually getting service from another comms provider that they actually provision themselves - Virgin Fibre etc... you'll be stuck waiting for openreach whoever you use.

We're having to wait until september to get fibre here, biut never thought we'd even be included... I'd be happy to just have the chance to get fibre right now....
