Is there any point in having it on both? I skimmed the policies and can't see much difference but as always it's not clear.

Yes. Home insurance covers general legal disputes etc you may get dragged into or want advice on but excludes motor claims.
Car insurance picks up uninsured loss recovery, personal injury etc as a result of motor accidents.

They would.
But when you win, there is a fee.
You pay that fee.
