My dad's looking into his car insurance renewal and is trying to work out if legal assistance is worth it.
I've done a bit of Google bashing and it appears it's almost certainly worth the extra £30 but my Dad being a thrifty fellow can't work out if its a con or not.
I've told him that the vast majority of people say its worth the extra but he's thinking along the lines of 'If I'm fully comp then surely that includes everything in event of an accident', which I suppose is a point.
So basically why should he pay extra for the Legal Assistance when he purchasing Fully Comp insurance in the first place?
Ta for any insightful help
Not car related but, we're glad we ticked the 'add legal cover' box on our home insurance - conveyancing solicitor cocked up on our move - we ended up suing them, insurance took care of it all. We would not have been covered for that kind of thing had we not ticked that box...
if your dads a gimmer like me with a zillion yrs no claims.. whats the chances he ll have to use the insurance..
I was hit from behind at a junction and the legal cover was 100% worth the money. If I did not have it I was going to have to pay my excess and also would not of had a soliscitor appointed who done everything and were great.
I would say spend the money for the sake of £30, could work out alot more expensive without it, even if an accident is not your fault!!
I always take it now. I was taken out by a truck, not looking where it was going on leaving some fuel pumps and failing to notice that there was car inside its turning circle. Admittedly I was lost, trying to work out how the junction was meant to work, but that didn't justify having him destroy my boot and the bike on the rack. Cue witness reports that were fabricated and a 2 year delay, but once my insurance actually got a decent lawyer on the case they settled very quickly. Savings for me: £500 of costs but also the ongoing effect of no liability for the accident. Best £30 I spent in a while
