We will be in touch
Hi All
I'm not sure if to leave the backing paper on the walls from the previous wall paper, walls are 30, s plaster lath orvstrip back completely and fill
Not a big paper fan as our first house had wood chip with several layers of paint, whilst using a steam stripper remove a lot of the plaster.
So what your experience STW decorators
lath
Strip bare. Fill holes, Sand , Size, Line horizontally, Paper vertically.
When you say size does this mean paint or paste, sorry 🙁
Size with paste.
There'll be instruction for the mix on the back of the packet for it.
Slap it on and let it dry.
Get the whole place re-wired and re-plastered then paint the walls. I wish I'd done that on my old house when I had the chance to.
Strip bare and replaster. That's a decorators advice.

This gave me an awesome finish downstairs and I wouldn't hesitate.
I discovered our kids rooms has some kind of secret wallpaper that deliberately allows the top half to be easily peeled off using a loose corner in one big strip leaving a smooth backing. Apart from texture you can't see that its backing paper I've painted over, rooms look good
The same wasn't true in the up/downstairs hallway. The paper did come away with more difficulty and its not obvious its backing paper until you about as close a 3ft away from it 🙁 However the quotes to remove and skim that area were ridiculous enough - ranging from 5-12k - to allow mw to live with it until I've made friends with a plasterer.
Is the backing paper the bit between the horrid painted foam and plaster skim that I have to shovel into bags everytime i touch a wall?
5-12k to skim how bigs you house and do you live in the SE.
We had a decorater quote us £600 for hall landing line and then paper excl. materials,
In the end Got a friend of a friend to Reskim the walls and ceiling £380
How bad is the backing paper? You know if you remove it you're going to get a better finish but it's probably going to need a lot more remedial work.
Ideally remove and skim but if money or time is tight then I'd strip a more inconspicuous section first so you can see how bad the walls are underneath - you can fill and line with paper if it's bad, and leave the rest on.
If you start pulling it apart, i dread to think what you may find. If its lath and plaster it may end up being a tear down and reboard.
