I need to give my leather brogues and other dress shoes some much needed tlc, I’m after the best product to nourish and condition the leather (not to polish) however the likes of Saphir using mink oil does not sit well with me*, so do you have any recommendations for a decent leather conditioner that is animal cruelty free? Thanks

*yep, I know I’m a hypocrite for having leather shoes yet being concerned about animal welfare, but all my shoes predate my change in ethics

Ton, you big sexy beast, long time no see!

Houns, something like Loake's shoe cream should do the job.

Unfortunately Loakes is made by Saphir.

Anyone used Leather Honey?

All well, ton, hope same for you and yours.

Saddle soap, as above, a good option.

Maybe this, too. https://www.rmwilliams.com/uk/care-products-2/leather-conditioner/CC243LD01.html?lang=en_GB

They'll still need a decent polish as well, mind you!

Also.. brogues? You spiv.

Renapur Leather Balsam

it is very good. But it does contain Beeswax (you did mention animal cruelty). Neatsfoot is also good, but again, animal byproduct

And a pair of cedar shoes does make a big difference.

Isn't Beeswax OK - natural by product ?

I’m ok with beeswax as nothing has been killed and boiled to produce it

Please, can you point to exactly where the cruelty lies in using a natural product after the insects that make it are done with it. No bees are harmed in the use of beeswax, that would be hopelessly counterproductive after all. Sounds like PETA propaganda to me.
And I use Renapur as well, wonderful stuff, works on waxed-cotton coats as well as leather too.

Are you ok with lanolin? Gold label hide food is good for all leather products

This kind of creme is okay to replenish and clean the leather after you have given a light brushing and cleaned the upper.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intensive-Leather-Nourishing-Kaps-Delicate/dp/B00WO5ZT2I

However never use any wet type polish or cremes on any hand dyed leather uppers or tamponated finished, it will sit into and lift out the original colour.

where the cruelty lies

I don't have an issue with Beeswax (I use Mink oil on my shoes after all).

Others, however, do. I was just alerting Houns to it, just in case.
