We have a laser printer which has now been relocated into the room next door. As a short term fix we are running an ethernet cable to connect it.
Has anyone used one of these or something similar?

No, but how about power line adapters? £20-30 will get you a decent enough pair, you don't need big bandwidth for a printer.
