So, okay I know I'm sure everybody asked this question every other day but, what laptop for £500-£650? Don't do anything special with it. Just the usual; down load photo's, word, excel and internet really.

And what problems am I going to have with my iphone/iteunes...?

TIA

If you dont 'do anything special' with your laptop, you could get something cheaper than your budget, unless you want to spend that amount...

Have a look on www.ebuyer.com

Itunes will work fine on a new laptop, windows 7 etc....

Don't have to spend that amount, no. Whatever I get is going to be better than the 5 year old number that just gave up the ghost!

Looking for recommendations preferably as I'm aware that there are thousands of laptops out there...

Issue with Itunes is will it not want to blank my iphone when i plug it in? What with it being 'registered' to another (now defunct) computer?

Whatever Currys have got for £350 - £400 will cover your needs e.g. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-g62-b29sa-15-6-laptop-blue-08702403-pdt.html

or you could get the same thing for the same price from PC World and suffer their shocking customer service.

I was thinking one of these:

HP Pavilion DV6-3122 Laptop, AMD Turion, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB with 15.6 Inch Display http://www.johnlewis.com/231132823/Product.aspx

Any reason why not?

That HP is £50 less for the unit, +£5 delivery direct from HP themselves, if that's what you decide on.

I spent some time on Friday searching quiet extensively as mine died last week...the 3 best ones I found were:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/241435

Toshiba Was only £299 last Friday...seems to have gone up £20.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/advent-modena-m201-refurbished-laptop-blue-08527248-pdt.html

In the end I went for the Advent from Currys and got cash back through TopCashback.com (could also have got it from PCWorld and got cashback from there too but same price and cashback level)

If you don't have a TopCashBack account can you use the link below to join:
http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/dooosuk/?s=2

Thanks
Andy

Edit....my budget was sub £300 as it only gets used for what you listed...web, music, photos from camera, MS Office. Didn't see any point in spending anymore and the refurb has a 1yr warranty the same as the new ones anyway.

I have a laptop from work - some naff bit of Dell nonsense but it does me fine. However the IT monkeys at work are getting increasingly strange in their decisions and for some reason once it has been off network it becomes a nightmare to sort when I come back into work. Concequently thinking of buying a personal one for me at home and away.

Being impossibly drawn to a 13" macbook pro & I don't understand why - subliminal messages placed in the Guardian and Radio 4 to catch all the middle class luvvies maybe.... but by christ they are expensive. And I won't have a clue how to use it having been a microsoft whore for best part of 20yrs.
