I'm going the Lakes on Sunday, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions for a ride?
Looking at between 40-50 miles XC route, my initial outline was to go from Ings and onto High Street, completing a clockwise loop that takes in Haweswater on the way back (some minor roads are inevitable this way it seems). Any ideas, or anyone know the route and can vouch for it? Lastly, anyone else up for it as I'm going on my own?
The route you're looking at takes in Swindale doesn't it? The last time I did it it, I said never again! The rest of the ride was OK, Swindale though, the ground was just wet/muddy enough to stop you from riding up the slight incline. It ended up taking two to three hours longer than we thought! For some strange reason my GPS kept on telling we weren't on the right path while going through there too...a few other folk said that had happened to them as well.
I think it took us over 8 hours! We thought it would take 5-6 and we were both quite fit. It's only 60k too. There are some much better routes in the Lakes, but you do say you're looking for an XC route. A lot of others could have some fairly technical sections.
Yes, the route I was thinking of did go by Swindale, however on your comments I think I may avoid it altogether.
Although I am looking for a XC route up there, I don't mind whether it gets technical or tricky, in fact I'd welcome it, the real onus is on a route that gives me a long day out with plenty of good riding, so any routes anyone can suggest would be appreciated. Like I said, although its an XC route I'm after, I am no stranger to putting my bike down a few drops so if its a difficult one then so much the better!!
