Me and the better half are planning a 5 night camp in the Lakes in early June.
I'll be taking the bike so might disappear for a day or 2, leaving her in the campsite as she won't drive my car - yes, I'm a horrible man 😉
Therefore the sites must have good facilities and ideally have something as interest nearby.
She says she's happy to be around the tent reading but that could get a bit boring for her.
Would be looking at 2 max 3 sites - all must have a pub nearby.
Any must visit sites in Borrowdale - I think there's one in/near Rothswaite which is meant to be good - anyone been there?

Looking at central/western Lakes. Been over 15 years since I've been to Wasdale but quite like the idea of camping there...would Pillar (the interesting side on foot) be doable from there without taking the entire day? Been on to-do list for years and this is the closest I'll have been to it for a long time.

Sorry it's a bit of a ramble but basically after some well equipped campsites with some good riding, short walks and good pubs nearby....cheers

When you say Pillar from Wasdale do you mean walking? I've done that in the past with time for a couple of climbs on Pillar Rock so definitely doable. The NT campsite can get a bit noisy though (as sadly can many Lakes campsites these day) which isn't good when you want to be up and about early.

Wasdale Inn have a small field opposite with basic camping and you can use the toilet facilities at the Inn.

Haven't been for years but there used to be good camping in Buttermere.

ElShal - thanks for the suggestion...it's a good shout but want to go a bit further over - done a fair bit of walking and biking in the Patterdale area.
Slow - yes, def walking on Pillar. I think it's called the High Level Traverse on the Ennerdale side.
I still have a dodgy left leg after tearing my Achilles last June so that might be a bit too full-on at the mo...might have to settle for a Kirk Fell or Yewbarrow.
Stayed at the campsite by the pubs in B'mere - worse night's camping I ever had as it was biblical rain and the tent collapsed 3 times in the night due to the wind 🙄

Eskdale campsite is usually nice (C&CC - never personally tried Fisherground). Walks, pubs cafe and railway if she gets really bored. Out on a limb but handy for Wasdale I guess.

Otherwise maybe Braithwaite? She can walk or bike into Whinlatter (cafe etc) or walk / bike / bus to Keswick.

Years since we camped at Rosthwaite - was very basic back then (2 loos and cold tap) so maybe not the same place.

Yup Castlerigg Farm - http://www.castleriggfarm.com/
Shortwalks from the campsite to the stone circle and up to Walla Crag and over to Ashness bridge if you like. Lovely walk down the hill and through the woods to town, (taxi back up the hill later ;o))
Fantastic views of Skiddaw and surrounding fells from your tent door and from the showers on site!
There's a little durty bar nearby or much better pubs in town.

Found Great Langdale was pretty good

2 pubs nearby and they are apparently strict on noise after 10 (or is it 11?). Heard a mate of a mate was thrown off the site in the middle of the night for being loud (carried on drinking after the pub till early hours).

Thanks all.
There seems to be 2 different ones at Stonethwaite - so will def be one of those.
Stayed at NT Great Langdale, Bays Brown near Wainwrights pub in Chapel Stile and the Castlerigg one - that's a contender again too.
