So me and the s.o are staying 5 minutes walk away from Troutbeck Bridge on the east side of Windermere and want to go walking. She runs half marathons and I've done a lot of lakes walking so fitness isn't a problem but truth be told have always just let my dad plan routes from maps so my actual knowledge of walking routes around there is pretty crap.
No car access but right on bus route between Ambleside and Bowness so shouldn't be a problem if we need to head a bit outside of the area. Any good walks people know of worth a look? Not looking for an all day, scale 10 peaks type epic but a good 4-5 hours sounds fine to me, if there are any accessible either by walking or bus with some scrambling type stuff thrown in (no other equipment like helmets or ropes) then that's a bonus.
Cheers.
Have a look on the walking britain website there's loads around ambleside e.g.

yes Fairfield horseshoe is very nice. A bit of care needed at the top to make sure you come off the right way. You will be taking a map, right?
Or, if you can get over the Kirkstone Pass to Patterdale, Helvellyn up by Striding Edge and down by Swirral Edge is a classic, a bit scrambly without needing any kit.
Yes I'm usually the one following the routes he makes so my map reading is good just not good enough for form my own routes quite yet.
