Evening folks,
Probably should post this on mumsnet, but seeing as you lot are a knowledgeable bunch i shall throw it over to you lot! 🙂
Right, can you recommend any 'out of the box' software that keeps kids from browsing what they shouldnt be browsing please?
It's to keep an inquisitive 9 year old away from the things you can imagine......there is the old supervised routine, but in case he sneaks the tablet upstairs etc.
I'll be having a look at the router to see if i can restrict access based on MAC address between certain hours and have already blocked gambling, Johnny Vaughan, etc etc......but i believe that there are sites that have a non blacklisted URL that fro there you can almost use as a proxy onto other sites.
Any products you can recommend or any to avoid?
Cheers!
I just used to use OpenDNS as being the easy solution but nowadays that isn't going to cut it as if it's an iPad they will just change to 8.8.8.8 🙁
Best is some sort of software you can install and lock down but mine are older than that now. If you think your child isn't too tech savvy then OpenDNS will do it though
Computer in the lounge and no computers upstairs or a week's ban.
worked for mine. God knows what they look at now though....
Nickc ftw.
if I’d had an ipad and my mum caught me trying to access what every 9yo is gonna search for, she would have drowned it and told me I could have another when i got my own house.
poor kids today, i doubt whether they will experience the almost savage, primal thrill upon finding some hedge porn.
alternatively, you could encourage them to google blue waffle disease, that will probably cure them permanently.
Blue waffle disease is most definitely NSFW!!
