Blobby jr seems to get over some bug just in time to pick up another one. 15 months old now and I think he's had a runny nose since about 8 months (starting at the germ pit that is nursery.) Invariably me or his mum will also pick it up too. Had planned to do a TT tonight but woke up with a sore throat feeling crap. How long should we expect this last...?

Sounds like I need to Frontline him before sending him to school!

Mine are 4 & 2 3/4s and still buggy. My Mrs works in the NHS, so I reckon she's immune but brings all the bugs home and gives them to the kids (then me!)

I think they might actually start to get better when they go to school 🙂

as above...the more bugs they get now, the stronger their immune system will get in the long run...

My two don't do too badly now, they're 2.5 and 3.5.

My 14 year old daughter is still full of bugs. She needs a re boot every couple of weeks.

Mine stopped puking and dripping snot at about 3.

We've had nits half a dozen times from pre-school and school though 🙁

2 and 4 here, 4 year old seems a bit better now - or maybe he just copes with it better. 2 year old is hopefully just at the end of about an 8 month period of constant colds (many of which he passed to us). Think I have not had a cold for at least 2.5 weeks which seems a very long time at the moment.

Looks like I've got at least another year of this then 🙁 Plays havoc with my training plan!

Oh god. As a father of a 1.5yo and a 2.5yo, this thread does not make for happy reading...

About 18-24 months after starting nursery IIRC, until then they're a little bundle of viruses which they will happily pass on to you.

Nits are worse, particularly if you've got girls (they usually have longer hair...)

Are nits not just a case of washing hair with the nit shampoo? Or are they like pet fleas? Once in the house difficult to get rid of.

Shampoo or spray for the nits followed by lots of combing. 😐

My kids were very rarely ill, but then they weren't molly-coddled and didn't live in a germ/dirt-free world, so maybe they built up their immune systems quickly? None of that "if you want a biscuit you must wash your hands" crap here 😀

Kids - how long before they become bug free?

Wife is a teacher, and when she started in a new school, it took about a year to get all the bugs out of the way.

Electric nit comb for the win. Little buggers are getting immune to the shampoo. Satisfying to hear the beasties getting zapped.

Ours aren't ill that often but damn when they are the colds they pass on to me are horrendous!! They seem to get over 'em quickly but I'm left feeling horrible for ages, never used to get colds now I'm ruined. Last one was a good month long, sore throat that then turned into Sinusitis.

Oh and not to forget the inevitable poor night time sleep that comes with all their colds and sickness. Ruined does indeed sum it up 🙁

They don't really everytime they start a new school they'll be introduced new bugs, it reduces after primary school but not bug free.

Mine aren't too bad anymore (3 and 6) but I have read that the immune system is fully developed at about 11 years.

8 and 5 and still picking bugs up from school on a weekly basis - I've had a cold every week for the last 6 weeks. Immune system has nothing to do with it.

Jnr FD was bug free to the age of 1. Got Chicken Pox, and then over the course of 1 1/2 years ended up in hospital twice, and had numerous infections requiring antibiotic intervention. Then of course I could argue that his short bout of Pneumonia led to me getting Pneumonia and ending up in hospital...

For the last 8 months or so relatively bug free ie just normal colds that last a few weeks, but when he passes them on to Mrs FD and myself they are horrible and make us feel like crap for ages.

Mate of mines daughter only started going to nursery aged 3 and had therefore stayed away from lots of other kids. He had not been as fit in years, doing seriously well in big running races. Since nursery he hasn't been well for more than 3 or 4 weeks at a time, and is no longer race competitive
