Ahhhh the relief! Had to psych myself up as the concept of pushing a red hot needle through my already very sore nail had me a bit scared to be honest. 2 bottles of amber ale helped build my courage and it was actually not bad at all, especially with the resulting relief.
Just hope I've saved the nail! 🙂
I shut my thumb (well the door closer did) in the hinge side of an hour fire door at school and had to have this done at the hospital. They used a tiny blow torch though. When it burnt through the blood actually squirted up on the ceiling.

oooh no hot needles for me, i cut through my throbbing thumb nail with a dremel cutting disc,

When I was 12 I had my big toe nail removed (it was ingrowing).
I was excused PE because of my very painful toe as it healed. For the teachers, no PE meant you had to clean out the sports equipment cupboard.
During this, I somehow managed to drop a shotput on my mangled, partially healed toe. OW!
Went to A&E and they burned a hole through the scab in my toe where the toenail should have been. Double OW, but sweet relief 🙂
