My daughter unexpectedly came home all excited about having been playing the ukelele at school. So in a bid to encourage musicality in the house we went and bought one.

Quite a fun little thing it is too. Surprisingly nice ring for £25.

In Brighton they are inexplicably popular with tweed bedecked, moustachioed, bellend 'creatives' who actually work in shitty retro clothes shops. I suspect for the sole reason that they can bray about how very alternative they are, and gosh I only really watch world cinema, you know, oh that's interesting, however are you aware I once teabagged a member of Alt J,... AND **** OFF YOU ****LESS BORE-LORDS.

YMMV

You need to learn "Write All Down for You" by Elliot Brood - its the music for the Swiss segment of the MTB movie Strength in Numbers

Was just about to post about the ukelele teacher, but beaten to it!

I'm completely untalented, but can make some noises now based on his videos.

Also, there's the obligatory [url=

to heaven[/url] which is a lot easier to play than it looks! Not at full speed though...

That's what worried me about the concept. Apparently they are now equal most popular instrument in primary schools, alongside recorders. I must admit that's probably a good thing.

Really is remarkably good for the price - now the strings have settled it sounds lovely. To be honest I hate listening to the buggers in recorded music but it is fun to play.

When played well, I like the difference in tone to a guitar, and this band, who I adore, use ukes quite a lot:

The Staves
Must get around to getting a Yamaha 6-string uke and learning some stuff...

"My dog has fleas"(sing it) or store a uke tuner on your phone.

Great fun for kidlets and old folk alike. 🙂

Jake S showing just what can be done

My elder son is a good bass and guitar player, but has a decent electo acoustic uke, and Nirvana sounds really good on a distorted uke.
