I bet he's weally worried about what a forum of folk who worry about meeting their exes, wonder why their seat tube breaks when they centre punch it, argue endlessly about bollox, read the Guardian, ride with only one speed, love tight fitting spandex, have the sense of humour of a physics teacher, pour their heart out over all and any minor swerve life chucks at them to a bunch of... well all of the above..

Yep I bet he'd be really concerned.

+1 on that! 😀 mind and add what frame geometery and fork lenght for all day hardcore riding, ah you did..argue about bollox!

mefty, if you haven't done so, go and read some Auberon Waugh, which should appeal to you, then tell me that you still find 'Jezza' funny.

Go on, I dare you. 😉

Damn. Am I that transparent? I thought I'd fooled everyone into thinking it was because he is an arrogant, xenophobic, petrol head, unfunny (no I mean really unfunny) dickhead that made me not like him. But you're too sharp for me flow. You hadus all fooled on the Top Gear America thread but this evening, you're really revealing your gifts.

(Btw, I don't think he really slept with Jemima Khan.)

I've read plenty of Auberon Waugh, admittedly more of his father, Evelyn, his daughter used to be a neighbour, I occasionally read her columns too.

Because he slept with Jemima Khan.

Well at least his bigotry doesn't extend to his bedroom partners

Though I do think it's unfair to call him a "fat ugly **** " which he largely has little control over but by all means slag him off for what comes out of his mouth.

'Cause he's a proper geezer what knows all about cars. Women find that irresistible - despite only being able to identify a car by its colour.

Very obviously supposed to be a joke, and it did nearly work, but the delivery was crap. Does everyone get offended at Alf Garnett too? Exact same schtick.

I know that's a popular stereotype, but I did know a lass who owned a Jag, a top-end model probbly over £100k sort of thing what she bought brand new.

I asked her what model, to which she replied 'a green one'. 😀

I love that. Don't get hung up on boring stuff like performance and fuel economy etc; get one cos you like the colour. Far better reason in my book.

She actually walked into the showroom, had a quick look around, then chose the one she liked the colour of best. 😯

I am not convinced I ever said he was amusing, merely a counterweight to other comedians/presenters on the BBC. Some of his early Sunday Times columns were very clever and funny, I don't really watch him now and don't read many of his columns. Those that I do don't have his initial originality but I guess he has developed a brand and is living up to that. There is no question that he is very successful at what he does.

BTW, did you really mean Auberon or were you referring to Evelyn. I've only rarely read Auberon since he left Private Eye, which must be 25 years ago.

Clarksons schtick would be much more tolerable if he could actually take a joke himself without getting all litigious about it, to the extent that repeating certain things about him would get this forum threatened with closure like others have been in the past.

A Grade A Bellend who has made a fortune (both directly and from exposure) from work in the public sector. Can someone provide a pistol and he can just shoot himself?

I see the Daily Mail agrees with the humourless here, 'outraged etc etc'

He can write, he's entertaining, and ok like the rest of us flawed to ****.

I'd swap places with him anyday, might even match his sarcasm at times. (Can't do it here, I'd get banned again)

Funnily enough, I'm watching a repeat of top gear on dave whilst reading this. Jezzer's just a caricature really - at one stage, he made a comment about being taken out and shot for criticising a bmw, and I'm (fairly) certain he didnt mean it literally. As a public sector worker myself, I dont particularly agree with his comments on the one show, but am able to realise he was just attempting to be shocking and / or funny, and playing up to his on screen persona. Bit of a male chicken, but not the devil incarnate. Anybody remember the Jonathon Ross / Russell Brand debacle? People love rearing up about, well, pretty much nothing really. I have a (very mild) concern regarding people taking his opinions on board regarding gilt edged pensions, etc, (although not the shooty bit of course), but am always willing to credit people with a bit more common sense and awareness. Then again, reading some of the comments on certain threads on here, I'm not so sure. 😆

The one thing he is most definately not is anything remotely like Warren Mitchell.

Mitchell presented us with a character that through his fear, ignorance and intolerance exposed the underlying predudices and showed them to be be ridiculous and untenable.

Clarkson is the embodiment of the character Mitchell was portraying. He is the joke. He is the old dog in the corner that farts during dinner.

He's an intelligent bloke who makes money from being on a car show. He then makes more money by being contraversial, and getting people talking about him.

If thats how he chooses to make his money, well fair enough.

Likehim/Loath him, he speaks it like a lot of people see it.

Easy money for the Beeb IMO, publicity they can easily deal with, add's Kudos to a programme that millions love and watch, easy on the eye/ears and entertaining to boot. He's a far better presenter than a lot more overpaid eejots the Beeb have on so called "intelectual" programmes.

He's always been the same, sure you've gotten used to his "patter" by now.. well you should have.

He's trying to sell DVDs by spouting a line which was very over-rehearsed, and designed to get people talking. I guess if you watch the One Show you deserve to have to put up with people like Clarkson advertising their latest tat.

On a positive note, and apologies if someone has already posted it, it means this can be linked:

Clarkson's is a bit of a bell-end though.
I have a feeling that if you're whole persona is "tongue in cheek", then it's no longer tongue in cheek, it's just who you are.
All the "he's just joking", it's just "tongue in cheek" reminds me a bit of the same justification for why some people found Bernard Manning funny.

Mind you I don't find Stewart Lee that funny either :), reminds me a bit of 80's comedians who's material consisted mostly of just saying 'Thatcher eh!?'

Clarkson is just a Pantomime Dame really. Sometimes he can be amusing but rarely is. Just like the Dame is there to entertain a small childish element of the panto audience Clarkson is there for the immature boys who think a piece of metal defines them and for the sad old gits who go to clubs and try and cop off with girls young enough to be their daughters.

Just my opinion. This was a peice of empty hot air and is not worthy of note or response and the union's are a bit sad for taking it as anything more.

I'm a bit torn on the whole thing.

Steward Lee is an interesting one. Halfway through that youtube clip I was thinking 'what a hateful little man', then I watched it all and it did make sense. I saw his stand up gig advertised last night and thought I'd rather set myself on fire than go to it but having watched that I've changed my opinion slightly. I think he's less of a comedian, more of a commentator - he's certainly quite switched on.

Hate it when people talk about peoples kids or wishing ill on folk though, both Lee and Clarkson make me feel slightly appalled that someone could feel like that, in jest or otherwise. I don't have kids but it still affects me, god knows what it must be like if you do have them.

Clarkson is a dinosaur but some of what he says does make sense. I've started reading (ages ago, lost interest) one of his books and he has some fairly valid points. The shame of it is that he flowers up these valid points with offensive 'man comments' about lefties, lesbians and liberals. But then I don't suppose he'd be as popular if he didn't make outlandish comments. Or sell as many DVD's..

As for the 'he should be sacked' comments - really? He clearly appeals to a number of people or he wouldn't be as popular as he is. This witch hunt that starts every time someone says something unpopular (fueled by the tabloids when there's no real news on) is pathetic. Told off - yes, asked to wind his neck in - yes, but sacked?

So a post that completely contradicts itself, I've done well...

I think Clarkson is a d!ck but what he said was a bad taste joke, nothing more, nothing less. He has a democratic right to freedom of speech just as the strikers had a democratic right to strike. And remember, a lot of the people who are outraged at what he said, were the same people who were talking about celebrating the death of Thatcher.

During the programme Mr Clarkson also made a jokey remark about people who threw themselves in front of trains.

A very talented man with whom I spent eight years of my professional life eventually threw himself under a train, to escape the voices.

The idea that Jeremy Clarkson is funny is the preserve of people who can't think properly. In my opinion.

He should be sacked and then prosecuted.

Problem is, for every person who knows someone who has been in a bad enough state to end their life in front of a train, there's another 500 who have been late getting home because of said act and feel cheated out of an evening with their kids, partner, whatever. Its these people that Clarkson appeals to, the unthinking majority who are only concerned with how it affects them.

He could also say it about fat people taking up room on planes, giving up seats for pregnant women, old people and so on. He picks easy targets that will gather the most amount of favour from the majority. Its lazy 'humour', just like Gervais.

LOL! @ Clarkson who incidently is also funny-ish celebrity maggot.

Only fools would take those celebrity maggots seriously and I bet many would like to be celebrity maggots themselves.

So when the the Union starts to condemn others for making fun of them I think they have transformed themselves into celebrity magggots ... "Look at me! Look at me! I think Clarkson is wrong! We are the Union we are right! Look at me! Look at me! Here is our demand!"
