What is it with folk who design clothes?
I have tried to buy a pair of jeans a few times now and am properly struggling to find a pair that fit. I seem to have the option of fitting at the waist and sprayed on at the thighs, or not fitting at the waist. It's not as if my thighs are big either given that I've been on a bike around 10 times at most this year.
Any suggestions?
Lets face it, it's time to start looking at the shelf marked " comfort fit" 😀
DD - my 99% of the time attire does comfort fit at its best. I spend my life in trackie bottoms due to my work and studies.
36 isnt old enough to start going for jeans with an elasticated waist is it?
Well, I'm 41 and still manage skinnies. 😉
Where are you shopping for them? G-star have never failed me. But tbh, they're not the cheapest. I do find that one pair of expensive decent jeans > a few pairs of cheaper ones. Howies comfort out of the question?
Check out Edwin & Nudie ranges, tapered loose fit as a starting point...

You're also probably the type of Jessie who uses moisturiser and Apple products, when you should be out practising the noble and ancient art of shin kicking. 😛
Tried a few shops. To be honest I dont want to spend a fortune on them as I'm planning on losing a fair bit of weight in the next few months now that I've got time for training and cycling again.
Why would anyone want to wear skinnies, they just make your feet look massive!

Absolutely. How insightful.
gluptie, I dunno to be honest. I'm thinking Gap might be best compromise between price and choice of fit.

2nd'd. I always thought they were a bit pricey but then found out I was just out of touch 🙂
They do last well and get more and more comfy.
skinny jeans out of teenage years is dangerous territory, but at 41...
Well, I'm 41 and still manage skinnies
If that said
Well, I'm 14 and still manage skinnies
It would make far more sense.
You are 41.... Time for elasticated waist beige corduroy trousers I'm afraid 🙂
(I am 40 by the way, but I wear shorts 11 months of the year 🙂 )
I got a pair of These from the outlet store in the sale.

2nd'd. my girl wears skinnies and she looks great in them, she's 40...oh dear, you're not a bloke are you?
I wear skinnies too @ 41. Its not about age, but how you pull it off
Edwins are your friend.
Look for nudie average joe or nudie sharp bengt, look on their website it tells you all about the cut. Perhaps try some on in a shop, they will be very stiff before the first wash. After you've done this go search for them on eBay, people buy them wear them a handful of times then I buy £90 jeans for £15 to £30!
If not have a look at the classic Levi 501.
but how you pull it off
Or in our case, how the wimminz like to pull them off. 🙂

Has anyone mentioned casual slacks yet?
levi 501, end of!

pulling off a 'bad look' isn't a good thing mate... 😉
I'll feel your pain with the big thighs small waist thing.
Try the Mantaray brand that Debenhams do. Next regular fit low waist also are just about ok and loads of choice. Also Full Circle seem to fit reasonably.
Give River Island a shot.
Do you wear Ugg boots with your skinnies? That's what most of the girls I see wearing them do...
Any suggestions?
Find a brand that fits, they are out there, you just haven't found it yet.
understand what 'rise' means in a jean and stick with a brand. I prefer Edwin (ED55/Nashville), iron heart and Albam. selvage denim so a bit more money but worth paying for.
I'm 41 and skinny but feel skinny jeans are for fashion followers not those wishing to have 'style'. Fashion and style are not the same thing. 🙄
Avoid those jeans with superfluous pockets and fastenings that northereners seem to like especially if you are middle aged.
Avoid superdry, it's pseudo-brand tat.
No, I tend to wear either hi-top converse or brown thin-soled brogue type things.
Dad wears 501 and Gap. does that help?
DoubleD, pictures or it didn't happen.
always wanted to say that 😉
dd - is this you?!
On a helpful note to the OP, I suffer from the same problem and find Burton (as in the high street brand not the snowboard one) has good sizing for their bootcut and relaxed cuts. If you catch them at the right time (like I managed to about 2 years ago) they do 2 pairs for £40 or something. Both pairs I got are still going strong!
I'm a rather thighy 36" waist and I've never failed to come out of Next without a half decent looking pair of jeans. Lowish waist, button fly and plenty options. Not too bad on price either.
I miss alpkit Jeaniu's. They are just so comfy.
crankbreaker, now you're being hoddible to me 🙁
I wouldn't be seen dead in tartan.
Edwin or Diesel for me. I'm gay though so naturally much cooler than you. Try ASDA for some dad jeans maybe?
Hi tops here too dd, a couple of pairs of g-star, or some nice brown Firetrap leather boots. Diesel, Firetrap, or g star jeans (not all skinny) and some nice very skinny Voi chinos. Worn with a nice slim fit tee, check shirt, or close fitting jumper
Howies for me. They fit me well, are super comfy, last eons and their lined ones are particularly favoured at this time of year.
If you're really struggling how about these (and they're in the sale)

It's the 32" waist and non twiglet legs, and cyclists arse I have that is the cause of me struggling to find a pair of jeans that fit. So no real need for maternity gear.
Sorry, just being a bit silly. HoF have a sale at the mo' so hillfiger ones are c£50, decent fit and mostly pretty regular.
41 and I still look great in skinnies, and I'm not even a manly manual labourer type like DD but a should-be-fat desk jockey.
OP: there are some jeans type clothing here, maybe?
I go for traditional shrink to fit Levi's. Hardish to get hold of but if you're ever in NYC, Dave's, on Avenue of the Americas, has just about every model plus bundles of Carharrt stuff for peanuts.

Most proper jeans brands come in 3 or 4 different cuts. Try Replay or G Star.
Find a shop that has a good range spend a few minutes trying on a range. You should find something that fits.
Or if you're on a budget try Gap.
501s. Carhartt. Uniglo.
DIESEL KURATT
KUYUCHI TIM
LEE COMFORT
WRANGLER STRAIGHT
HIUT SELVEDGE (EX HOWIES OWNER MADE IN WALES JEANS)
I KNOW MY JEANS ITS MY JOB 😉
HIUT SELVEDGE had to google them but at £230 for a pair of Jeans 😯 😯
lucky if I pay more than £30 for my Georgio (asda) jeans
