Maybe give alpine bikes the kick up the arse it badly needs.

The big question is how much autonomy they will have to operate. JDS is a very centralised organization with little scope for local variation. Likely there are some locations where they compete with Blacks/Millets too.

JD and SportsDirect do basically the same thing. They operate a minimal cost, minimal service model. It works for sportswear as 90% of it is worn for nothing more taxing than watching TV or walking round the supermarket. Where it doesn't work is for anything that requires specialist knowledge and time spent with the customer such as outdoor equipment or bikes.

I was in the big Glasgow one last week. They have a great big mezzanine for the Alpine Bikes section and its empty, they had about six bikes on display. I was after a mountain bike tyre and they had 4 to pick from - all were Bontrager and 3 of them were 29.

I left wondering how shops like this can stay in business, its a shame because the bloke in there I spoke to was very helpful.

Can see why JD want a chunk of Tiso, plenty of high margin products and very little overlap with their core business

Bugger, they've got George Fisher too? Ok, not the cheapest place in the Lakes but they've got a good range and a decent cafe.

Cheers,
Jamie

Richmtb, I think they are trying to run that one as a Trek store. The one at Great Western road is a bit better but not great.
