MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Any of you own one/like to own one? What do you make of them?Cheers in advance.
Couple of my customers have them (im a Valeter) and I've driven them on occasion, very nice to drive, and huuuuge boot space. But not driven for more than 20 mins so can't say much.
Can tell you that the quality is very good. Carpets, Fabrics, Leather, dash etc. all very good.
(that's the sort of stuff I notice, as the better the quality, the easier it is to make it look like new)
Id love one! But really cant justify spending the money with so much other stuff thats a higher priority. My dads looking to replace his car and Ive been badgering him to get one 🙂
Like the look of the sportbrake. Ambled in to local showroom recently to see if they had 1 to look at but not available till later in year. Interior of saloon was v nice but no test drive. Will have to wait a while anyway as never buy new .
Looking at 3.0 V6 diesel though regularly see lovely sounding R going past the house.
I had on as a courtesy car for the day. Very nice place to be. Didn't want to give it back.
My boss has just traded in his xj for one.
Very nice car.
My old man bought him self a 3.0V6 S and it shifts! Quicker than my Golf GTi ed35, lovely to drive too very intresting to drive, he bought it over a 535d that he was looking at based on the drive alone never mind being alot less boring inside.
He's had a RS4 in the past and recons it's almost as good but without the noise or fuel consumption!
There's one for every type of driver - 2.2 diesel, 2.7 diesel (older), 3.0 diesel (newer), 5.0SC V8 petrol (and if you live abroad, a 3.0L V6 petrol and 5.0NA V8 petrol). Fantastic cars - very quick, pretty economical, roomy, reliable and a great place to spend time. I'd have one in a flash.
I mulled over having one, it was a 2,7 diesel model. They lovely to drive and are very well built too. My uncle has a big petrol engined one and I hankered after one when I saw his. They don't whiff of the "old man's Jag" anymore as they are so well specced and very modern too. I couldn't afford the newer 3.0 litre diesel so I bought something else instead - a 535d M Sport which has been re-mapped and er goes like stink.
If I had the money though and could afford run the thing I'd have a petrol engined one any day, I do think they're that good.
I think I'd like one...like the look. I like the saloon version and I'm sure I saw an advert for an estate version and that was even more appealing...complete polar opposite of what I drive now (very frugal and compact Suzuki Swift) but I am drawn to them...can't ever afford one so it's on the dream list...but yes, in a heartbeat!
I've had a 2.7D for about 3 1/2 years now - should really change it but it's so nice to drive I haven't felt the inclination yet. Build quality is very good and it's been pretty reliable - a fault with the power steering was fixed under warranty and that's been about it. Quite economical too - 50mpg easily achievable on a longish run. Lots of room in the boot but the opening in the rear bulkhead when you fold down the rear seats is smaller than you might think so difficult to get more than 2 bikes in without partly dismantling them. Main downside so far is that it's quite long and doesn't fit in car parks well - 70s multi-storeys can be a bit of a nightmare.
The estate car version seems good on paper but I don't think it looks anything like as good as the saloon.
I drove one while looking for a car this year, having not purchased a car for 12 years i did push the boat out for a tight Yorkshire git, it was a great drive and was well built and nothing like the Jaguars i served my apprenticship working on, unfortunately for the Jag dealer the Merc dealer over the road had a pre registered C Class with 10 miles on the clock with all the goodies on that i would have had to pay extra for on the Jag so i went for the Merc, not dissapointed at all in the Merc and the service from the dealers is without exception the best i have ever experienced (Syntners Cheltenham and Glous) but i would not hesitate to consider at a Jag next time. Currently i am sold on the Merc to be honest it really is superb to drive and IMO looks great.
I drove the BMW 5 series as well and thought the diesel engines on the BMs were the best out of the three IMHO but again the BMWs come pretty sparse with toys and the extras soon add up.
I dig Jags. Always have.
I picked up a copy of a jaguar magazine in a chippie while waiting for my order, Jag drivers DONT LIKE CYCLISTS!
Gutted.
I still dig Jags though.
Thanks for your replies guys/girls.Do you have any ideas about how much i,d need to pay on a used model for insurance? Also,do they tend to hold there value?
www.autotrader.co.uk

Far far to many variables.
Find one which suites your budget and spec requirments on autotrader, then get the reg, and use it to get an insurance quote on moneysupermarket
You can put me into the ' would love to own one' camp. I lusted after the saloon when it came out and then the other week I saw the add for the XF Sportbrake estate and nearly had an accident in my pants. Unfortunately a postmans wage doesn't stretch to the £32K the base model costs , but my plan is to start saving and try to keep my Rover 75 going for the next 5-7 years till I can ( hopefully) afford one.

With no information on you, or the car, no 😉

My dad had one, he loves it and had Audi's for over 20 years before that (way before they were popular). I've been in it a few times and the perceived luxury and quality is a step above anything I've been from the same car sector.
Fabulous cars, I get to drive them through work. I'd have one in a heart beat. Especially the supercharged 5.0 litre V8 - 510bhp is quite addictive 🙂

Only help I can give is moving from an old 535i (value £1k) to a 3.0 X-Type (value £1k) my insurance went up 50%..., but that was £200 to £300 (comp + business). No idea on the XF.
What about resale value.Do they hold up well like an Orange 5?

Just check Autotrader for the one you want to buy, then check their value at an age you'd want to sell.
tbh All cars lose vast amounts of cash, I've just paid £1k for a car that was £30k when new, 10 years ago - in fact my previous car had already lost £40k before I bought it.
AutoExpress magazine, No 1227 August Special, has two pages of Mark Cavendish and an XFR.
Although one of the pages is a picture of Cavendish on a bike on a turbotrainer on-top of the XFR. And the other page is a token gesture to the world out side of car-stuff eg the Olympics.
What would a £12000 XF be worth in five years time if its well looked after? Is there really a market for older, larger Jags.
They seem a bit expensive.I wonder if they are really much better than a Jaguar S type.Looks a bit similar.
i live quite close to a jag specialist, the seem to have some nice motors in and don't see many XF's in the pitch, may be a sign people don't want to part with them?

Nice cars there mate.Cheers
Anybody used that Warrington car dealer, any good?Do they do decent lines of credit?
Jaguar XF's are sexual.

Yes, and No.

They are about as similar as Megan Fox and Jade Goody.
Team Sky have a sportbrake for one of their team cars. It looks lovely.
I had a 4.0 v8 s type. Nice engine ( until the nikasil wore out). Xf is completely different.
Great cars, only suffer from the fact that they aren't quite as good as a 5 series. A lot of people buy them because they aren't a 5 series though, so horses for courses.
Funny, the German auto press reckoned the XF was better than a 5 series - they are normally quite hard to convince that anything non German is any good!

Driven both?
I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find a difference.
And tbh I couldn't fault either the S-Type nor current or the 2 previous 5 series's - but what do I know.
Was that the old 5 series or the recent one? Anyway having spent time in all three I'd take an M550D touring in dark green 🙂
Any of you bought a jag on credit?Seen any good credit deals about?
except you cant have a m550d in england. (otherwise that would be my choice too)
Thankfully i don,t want a BMW.
@IanPinder Take advantage of the Euro crisis and order one in Germany? LHD on UK roads is a bit of a pain though...
Why does it have to be LHD on UK roads? You can order a RHD from a German/French/European dealer.
4x4 system gets in the way of the steering column apparently
Well I think they look lovely, and I'd really love a V6 diesel. Ah well.. 🙂
RJ - in the way, in what way are the wheels not connected to the steering wheel?
Or like my old 5 series where the V8's had recirculating ball type vs the better rack-pinion system on the smaller models?
Propshaft for the front wheels comes forward from the rear of the transmission, and the steering column fouls this on RHD, so no RHD available.
