as of the end of october im out of the bike trade.......

Starting a new job with a large oil company in aberdeen ---- sold my soul to the devil if you will.

only managed to get one interview in 6 month of looking for a graduate job. Had an assessment center last week and got the call yesterday.

lucky ive always had a knack of being able to waffle shite to people.

all i wanted was a stable career with prospects - id already reached the top of my current path other than if id owned a shop .... been a mechanic , sales man and manager of shop and didnt fancy repping. Currently back at base level in a bike shop as a mechanic working for a mate - hes helping me by giving me work up here and im helping him by cutting down his queue of work ...

trust me im not motivated by money for this move , salary wasnt even discussed till yesterday and even then it was ok thats fine - didnt bother trying to negotiate just grateful to get a job !

Good work Terry! I was worried about the ol' 2:2 as well, but my (new) employers seemed convinced that 3 years working in bikes would give me an edge that some of the 2:1 candidates didn't have.

I've no idea what that edge is, but the boss still seems convinced i have it, happy days!

Happy for you. I know what a great feeling it is to get out of a job you hate.

However your post does cast some doubt on your qualifications for working in such a critical and potentially dangerous industry

You'd better hope that the next doctor who operates on you, the next teacher your kids have, the next lawyer who defends you, the next engineer who designs that bridge you've got to cross, didn't get THEIR jobs because they have

always had a knack of being able to waffle shite to people.

😀

well done Terry,

i'd far rather be an engineer than a chemist, think yourself lucky!

i spent 5 years in oil & gas working for Aker Kvaerner, its a good industry to get quals and experience and as I've found it carries a fair bit of kudos when you move to another business sector.

[i]the next lawyer who defends you, the next engineer who designs that bridge you've got to cross, didn't get THEIR jobs because they have

I would have thought it was a pre-requisite myself.
