Anybody come across a simple method of transfering all the songs from a playlist to a usb drive? - much like burning a playlist to a cd but substituting a usb drive for the CD.

Well, you could drag&drop because all the files are stored in neat little folders for you...

It might be that it's a hassle to do that, though, if you want one song here and one song there from many albums.

What computer do you use? On a Mac, I would probably create a playlist then start Automator and create a workflow to select a playlist of songs and then copy the files out into a folder.

On a PC, I'd probably tell it to make a Music CD but choose that you want an mp3 CD and then copy them off the CD when it is burned.

Slight hijack, but do you know how you copy a play-list from one mac to another?

Not the actual files/songs/mp3s etc but the actual criteria for the playlist e.g. artist equals Kylie Minogue, album = etc.

I have one mac that is dying and another new one, I a pretty confident that I have copied across all the music, but I don't want to lose my play-lists that have taken ages to create

anyone?

organic355,

Try an application called mediaRover it can copy everything from one place to another, moving songs and syncing playlists. It is a free piece of software and works pretty well. I've just completed bringing together two itunes libraries (one mac, one pc) into a single library and it didn't skip a beat.

Really?? There's not a folder for each playlist surely - if so I'm sorry for being so dumb!

That's it.... seems like a hassle. Thought there may be a little [pc] app that would do it for you.

On a PC this info is installed in library files in your user profile, I'm not sure on a Mac...

Maybe drag and drop is the solution........found this:

Just drag and drop. Open the playlist, edit->select all, then drag them out of itunes and into a Finder (mac) or Explorer (Windows) window, and you'll get all the mp3's dumped into the folder you drop them in.

Can you not create the playlist, select all the songs in the playlist then file->export and choose somewhere to export them to? Haven't got itunes in front of me, just running from memory.

Regarding the playlists etc, you can export the library files from one machine to be imported into another. If I recall correctly it includes playlists etc..

Maybe talking out of my backside though

That just exports a list of the tracks into a .txt file

As an update I solved this by using the exported playlist text file (which contains the path to each track) and after messing about with it using a database (but a spreadsheet would do) I turned it into a .bat file that simply copied all the tracks onto the usb stick.

In reality it should only take a couple of mins to do and is certainly worth it if the playlist contains more than 10 or so tracks.

Ah - looks like sharkbait was right! I just created a playlist, selected all the songs and just dragged the selection to the desktop - hey presto - mp3 files (or, in my case mainly m4a files) are now on the desktop.
