Congratulations dude! Pleased for you.

Anyway, some great Oirish names but can I just advise that if you choose one, pick one that’s easily pronounced and spelled.

Sincerely,

Ciarán 😀

My sister named her little boy Ivor.

That was a head scratcher for me as its traditionally a Welsh name, so I asked why.

Apparently Ivor is of Scandinavian and Old Norse origin and its meaning is 'archer-soldier, bowman'.

We're from Nottinghamshire...... Think about it.....

Also his dad's name is Thomas..... Again, think about it......

Good reasons I think. I like it.

My favourite boys name is Alfred. After the greatest English King, and it shortens nicely to Alfie when you're young and Alf when you're an old fart.

Well, for Norse you've got to consider Thor (after the cyclist) or Odin (after a loud noise).

Was going to say Stanley which is what we called our lad as it was way off the top 100 when we named him and I haven't kept up with fashion as the next one was a girl but it seems it's a solid middle order type name these days.

Good luck whatever, just make sure it scans ok as a name and works with his middle name for those occasions when you really need to use his full name. ;o)

If you are going to use a nickname, just give him the nickname or choose a short name in the first place.

Nicknames are for when you either don't like your name, or it it's too much of a mouthful to bother with 😉

It's a pain in the backside working for a large company when you are known by a nickname as no one can find you on the corporate directory.  I then changed directory listing to my nickname (which doesn't help as there are various ways to spell it) but then all my official stuff like qualifications and ID cards ended up with my nickname!

Congrats, Jim!

In the same boat, some good suggestions.

Did you hear about the fireman who married a Spanish woman?  They had two boys, José and Hose B

Just been through this myself. The shortlist included Seth, Felix, Thomas, Caleb and the wife liked Abel but that wasn’t happening. We went with Zachary (zach) in the end.

Doesnt really really fit the 'roots' criteria but some family friends have 3 boys with awesome (IMO) names.

Raphael (spelling?!? - think artist / hero turtle) - Raph

Ezekiel - Zeek

Zephania (spelling again?!?) - Zeph

We went to the other extreme, so short you can't shorten it! Eli

edit: missed some letters on a couple of words. Fat fingers!

just caught up on this thread, some genuine lols, thanks guys.

Several of you mentioned a few of our top picks so far.. the front runner being Lochlan, for which we would use Lochie, or Lucky (cause this is a one hella lucky conception).

Since arriving in the states this week we've found ourselves adding Woody to the top of the list, which has recently been demoted by... Arlo.

How does Arlo fit into the modern hive mind?

I love it. Typically, it doesn't fit our initial criteria, but it is apparently of Anglo Saxon origin so he should fit in nicely to President Farrages society when he grows up.
