We will be in touch
I set up XBMC on a spare PC which is running Win 7.
The video/audio is via an Nvidia Geforce 9200 which makes its way to an AV receiver by HDMI and then on to my TV and a load of speakers.
I have installed the lastest Nvidia drivers/suite and everything works OK when I'm using my PC (i.e. I can get the video on screen and the audio is coming through as 7.1).
But....whenever I run XBMC I can get video, but no audio.
I've tried everything. Given that I am getting sound, just not through XBMC, it feels like I'm missing something.
I've had a good look online, but most fixes seem to be for Ubuntu.
Anyone have any ideas?
On the audio settings page what options/outputs do you have selected? Also on the video panel there are some audio settings which can cause issues if using a digital audio output, for example the 'resample audio' options.
The best place to ask is on the Windows section on the XBMC forum, they're pretty helpful.
Windows 7 has the option to send your audio lots of routes so have a look at control panel

I've tried both the Directsound and WASAPI HDMI options in the audio section. i've also tried playing around with most of the video settings (particularly rendering).
I'll have one last play around/swearing session this evening and then head over to XBMC if still no luck.

I've got it set to HDMI and disabled every other device/option. It must be an issue with Nvidia/XBMC, since I can get sound no problem through anything other than XBMC

Only thing I found Windows-y was a suggestion to boot the PC before powering on the AV gear. Something about synchronisation issues. Seems a reach to me.
Latest video drivers, presumably?
If it works in the OS but not in the app, it must be something specific to the app? Might be worth asking on the XBMC forums.

okay, just a sanity check here - you do have the volume in XBMC turned up and not muted ?
it has its own internal volume control, which i think is + and -, in addition to all the windows volume controls
also have you tried playing music rather than videos through xbmc?

Tried both music and videos.
OK, at the risk of outing myself as a total fool...I thought that the red icon at the top right of the screen was as a result of my audio not working. Does XBMC mute on default after installation? I've never played with XBMCs internal volume, there's nothing in the GUI (I didn't even realise it had any until i googled it!).
I've clicked on the red icon plenty of times, but I guess it's not interactive.
If all I needed to do was press the + key a few times I'm going to deny myself a beer tonight as punishment 🙂
Classic. Cheers for the heads up

If you only knew how many hours and sweary words I gave up to XBMC last night...
Fingers crossed I'm just a complete muppet and it's finally working (it's pretty awesome from what I've seen (and not heard) so far)
🙂

Thanks for your help retro.
I spent all of last night carrying out lots of really complicated IT things which eventually forced it to work...
*cough* I pressed the + key and it unmuted the volume *cough*
