Hi All, I know some (all?) of you are in the IT Field, but this is a weird one... my old employer from AUS wants to employ me again but i'll work at home in the UK and get paid by the AUS company.... can i find anything about tax or if it would be better to be a 'self employed contractor' etc etc?? noooooooooo!!!!!!!!
anyone got any ideas?
would an Umbrella company deal with the international tax stuff and just PAYE me ?
seems the interwebby is a flood with the opposite (aussies working in oz for uk companies - hmmm!)
thanks for ANY info. back to trawling HMRC and AUS Tax sites.
I deal with an NZ company.
We invoice them in NZ dollars (no VAT) from our uk company which they pay into an NZ dollar account. We repatriate money as needed into our UK accounts. After that it's all 'just money' for the UK company.
If you're doing this as your only income I'd be wary of accepting an AUS$ contract - you've got no hedge against exchange rate changes.
Your income tax is generally based on where you live. I subcontract to a company in Malta but all my tax affairs are UK.
The Australian company will just have a foreign supplier. You will just have a foreign customer.
thanks for the quick reply.
Q? where do you pay TAX - i'm guessing UK on your UK tax returns on the income you repatriate. they must have had to clear it with the NZ tax authorities to not withhold tax from your payments.
It's being done through a company so they aren't 'employing' and individual who needs to pay local income tax etc - it's like they've bought a 'widget' from China and have been invoiced for it by the Chinese company.
In the UK any tax that's do on the income to the company or paid out to employees is covered by UK tax laws.
