Where did Robocop come from? Nothing good about hat at all as I remember, well maybe with the exception of the sample on Silver Bullet

Oh yeah, Leon. Good choice.

Heat could've been good, but for the stupid ending.

Ronin, I've seen, but can't remember a thing about it.

I suggested it no one said anything bad about it - what don't you like about it? It's to my eyes a stone cold classic

As usual, increasing numbers of posters just posting films they like rather than films they think everyone will like. I mean Boogie Nights ffs?

TBH, they’re both good, so is the Last Crusade – yep, those 3 great films, I’m glad that’s the only ones they made, and lets leave it at that.

Yeah they could have so easily ruined a great trilogy

People have mentioned great films. Alien(s), Robocop and Goodfellas are all right up there as films I like.

No film will be universally loved, however, going on the thread title, I feel the standout film mentioned that will get the best consensus as good film is Jaws. Toy Story would also fit the bill as well.

OT but Goodfellas was a Good Film until the Birks in Aberfeldy did a Goodfellas and Meatballs night - spaghetti and meatballs (garlic sliced according to the system), a glass of red and the film.  Then it became a Brilliant Film.

Jaws is a great shout as is The Incredibles. I get Goodfellas and Casino mixed up and think they are both shite. Seen one Mafia film, seen them all.

Robocop is similar to Starship Troopers when it comes to people thinking they are supposed to be serious action films. They really aren’t and both are classics, but I wouldn’t think they’re universally loved.

Monsters Inc?

Other than Toy Story I find Tom Hanks really irritating. No idea why.

Well apart from the terrible acting, the awful script and poor direction, nothing.

Entirely subjective. I think it’s shite, you may think differently, either way is fine and nobody died. 😉

Plains Trains and Automobiles

Brilliant film as long as you stop it 15mins from the end and make up your own whacky ending.

It is though, but a little more as to why people think something is shite or not is useful, rather than I didn't enjoy it or not to my taste - neither of which make something shite.

Okay, as previously stated I find once you’ve seen one mafia film you’ve seen them all. I genuinely get Casino and Goodfellas confused. They blend in to one, overly long, predictable film with cliche characters.

With it being subjective if I think it’s shit then, to me, that is exactly what makes it a bit shite. Opinions are great 👍🏼

Agree it's subjective. But shite? Script is top notch, editing , cinematography, performances are all fabulous. Sense of time and place...

Shite is harsh for a well crafted piece of cinema.

Midnight Run

I'm in a FB group called Last Exit To Nowhere Collective, spin-off from the t-shirt company.

Anyway the only film that this collection of uber-geeks agrees on is

John Carpenters, The Thing

And they are right.

Everything else is just varying degrees of fluff.

I’d be (somewhat) surprised at anyone not liking:

I'd be somewhat surprised at anyone having even heard of all of those.

I may have missed it, but I can't quite believe this has run to four pages and no-one's mentioned Back to the Future.

The Breakfast Club.  Ferris Bueller's Day Off.  Weird Science.  Actually, pretty much any John Hughes movie.

The Princess Bride, already nominated but +1 here.  The Terminator, Aliens, Total Recall, Die Hard.

Pretty much any Pixar.  The Wrong Trousers.

I'd suggest Star Wars but I expect there'll be someone out there hating on it just to appear rangy and interesting.

Temple of Doom / Lost Ark.

Die Hard / DH2.

Skipped from page 1 to here, so just going to post my list. Various criteria applied, but they all do what they do extremely well (the best of their kind) IMO.

Blade Runner (pick your favourite cut).

Tremors

Metropolis

There Will Be Blood

A Sunday In Hell

Unforgiven

Brazil

Last Of The Mohicans

and my leftfield suggestion - Moulin Rouge

Back to the future is brilliant. Every time I watch it I still think Marty won’t make it back at the end. Ferris Bueller is a terrible, terrible person. Never understood how people like it. He’s a complete ****, basically ruined Cameron’s life and failed the ‘don’t be a dick’ test.

As mentioned in The Big Bang Theory, the film moves from set piece to set piece with Indy appearing in all of them but nothing he does has any effect at all. You could take Harrison Ford out of the film completely and still have the same result. 😉

Yeah at times it feels like that is how discussion in here goes, a bunch of people living detached from reality viewing films as if they were documentaries and unable to sit back and enjoy 😉

I’ve always enjoyed it honest!! 😂 I thought that  ^ was funny though. I remember a housemate back in the 80s saying he hated it because all Indy did was go from one fight to another. That’s the point..
