I just logged onto Ebay for the first time in a while while at home in Southampton. I got an New Login email almost immediately which could be fair but it said I was in London. It that likely to be because of my new internet provider changing how my machine is routed or something I should worry about?

We noticed recent sign-in activity on your account at ebay.co.uk.

Yeah it’s just picking up the location of your IP address.

So long as the time is right, then it's OK.

Your ISP can route stuff differently sometimes even with an existing ISP - you've got a new ISP so will have 'moved' on t'internet.

Obviously nobody can be 100%, but i think this is ok. As you say, not logged in in a while and a new provider means the data ebay receive will have changed and they've flagged it up.

Were it hacked you probably wouldnt be able to sign in in the first place.

I take it you know not to sign in via an email link. Just via google and from the results or from a saved bookmark

Check the purchase history. If it's mainly power tools and battlefield first aid supplies then it's more likely you've got concussion and forgotten than that you've been hacked.

Not really back. More of a drive by punning.

I only dip in and out very, very occasionally these days.

I'm sorry to hear that but it is valentine's day so you might get lucky.

Just to add, unless you pay for a fixed or static IP, your internet provider may change it from time to time anyway - It doesn't happen that often but they can, and do, re-allocate IP addresses.

Your 'normal' IP address will ceratinly change if you switch providers.

I have by browser set to delete everything when I shut my browser down, which is good but a pain too, as every time I log into google or whatever, I get an email alert "a new computer has signed in using your details! is it you?!!111"

Yes that sounds quite common, if I’m on the work VPN then it’ll often say that my location is Maidenhead or something like that as that’ll be the breakout IP of the VPN.

Turn on eBay 2 factor authentication if you want to sleep easy.

2 Factor on most stuff so I wasn't over concerned.

I get a new computer today so I will be going through the whole world of pain again for every app I use. 🙁
