What m/c is it that still has a tube?

My last one was probably a 1976 Garelli...

Only for short distances. never use a patched tube for a permanent repair. I had a patched tube lose its patch on the motorway at 70 mph at 1 pm on a Saturday night 50 mile north of london.

A patch is a patch. Its the bond that may fail. I use patched tubes all the time. Sometimes let them sit at a high pressure over night just to see.

TJ, why only for short distances? If it's safe, it's safe. If it's not, it's not.
I've got plenty of patched on my enduro (motor)bike tubes - no problems. Motorbikes are running lower pressure than bikes anyway.

Personally, just to get me home then change the tube, it's going to smart a bit if it goes pop

A bicycle patch is not very big, the glue holding them on can degrade with heat - thats what happened to me.

a proper vulcanised patch put on my a repair place is better but still a weak spot.

Patches can and do fail - I have had this happen to me. I'd rather not risk a blowout. tyres get hot at high speeds and melt the glue.

So IMO Ok in an emergency to get you home but replace the tube with a new one asap

Thats just my opinion
