I've got a mid 2010 MBP that I keep thinking about upgrading? It's a 13" and I would probably sty the same or possibly go for the 13" Air instead.

Is now a good time or is there a new model just around the corner?

Also what are thoughts on 13" MBP Vs 13"Air?

Retina worth paying for?

Thank you. Ian

There's always a new apple product just around the corner. Is your current MBP running slow, showing age? Do you just fancy a new one?

I'm amazed how clear retina is on mine, but it's only really worth it if you are photo editing etc. Lots of people I know think it's a gimmick were it's the minimum these days for my trade.

New Air out in the next few weeks apparently. MBP getting close to an update too. See this buyers guide.

Retina is amazing, well worth it.

I have a 2010 MBP, last year I put 8Gb RAM and a 500Gb SSD in it, and it's like a new machine.

If you haven't done this ^^^ then that's what I'd do. TBH I'd wait for Skylake based Macs next year before I update, mostly for stuff like thunderbolt 3.

Yeah, I'd be holding off to see what the new Air is like. Lots of nice new Intel chips to use, new design rumoured.

For current 13" MBA vs 13" MBPR it depends a lot on the spec you want - once you start speccing up a MBA they get very close in price so it comes down to whether you're willing to go a little heavier for that screen.

It's also way faster* than our brand new 2015 27" iMac, so newer isn't necessarily better....

*for most things I use it for which need disc access
