you can choose your own google background now - I think it just displays random images if you don't pick one.

How the shit do you turn it off? Can't find an option for it in preferences.

Edit- go to choose an image->editor's picks->scroll down to the bottom and choose white.
Brilliantly you can then not read the link text

OK seems you can get rid of it by using:

www.google.com/webhp?hl=all

instaed of www.google.com

You can get a Google (or Bing) toolbar for most browsers and never have to visit the main page again...

Or if you use Chrome you can search directly in the address bar or Firefox use the integrated search option.

I hate all the toolbars to add to your already crowded browser experience...

When I open a new tab, I have it set to default to google.
