Easily. We sold our old van for £1300 quid or so, it had plenty of miles on the clock but was mechanically solid and rust free.

It was a Citroen Dispatch. Same as a Peugeot something and a Fiat Scudo.

My brother's old Convoy hitop cost him under a grand. Insurance was more expensive and it was pretty scabrous but it was reliable and immense. I wouldn't have wanted to spend long days in it, not really a very nice place to be but it could have been improved.

i bought my sprinter for 400 quid, with a cooker, sink and fridge inside, but no mot. sure it could use a re-spray but its my day to day vehicle, as well as a camper and its never missed a beat in 20,000 miles. just passed the 3rd mot since ive had it with nothing needed . . . but then it is a merc and not an overpriced 'look how cool i am' vw
some vans are built like trucks, some like cars i would avoid anything with alloys, front wheel drive or a wierd gearstick poking through the dashboard

Transit? Bleeding ubiquitous things and all other Fords have a decent reliabilty rep these days don't they? I'd like this myself. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-Ford-Transit-T260-SWB-85ps-Standard-Roof-Panel-Van-/400144678125?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item5d2a7b3ced

Toyota HiAce
Ford Transit (get the SWB for all round live-with ability).

Aim for a private sale.

absolutely. my 02 t4 was 2.5k, but with 160k miles on it.

Transits are a good idea, you probably want to get a FWD low roof 'one tonne' (nominal payload) with 15" wheels - this means a 260, 280 or 300 series as they definately will go under a 2m carpark barrier. Heavier ones - ie 330 or 350 which have 16" wheels as standard and the RWD ones might not

A friend got a renault trafic for a grand. 2.2 TD - or something like that. Drives like a car - not too big - quite nice comfy cab etc. Think it had 90k on it - which is not a lot. I got van envy.

If you could stretch to £4000 could sell you my iveco daily LWB hi top more than enough room for a bed and bikes and anything else you fancy putting in it.

its a 2006 and on 89'000 miles and could do oil change before it goes very clean and i had dual mass fly wheel and new clutch put in less than 8000 miles ago which was £800.

look on auto trader there is no cheaper for age/mileage atm NO VAT as well 😀

Yes, I got lucky though with mine.

04 Long wheel base, high roof citroen relay, 2.2HDI, 75k full dealer history, not bad condition. Absolutely huge van, paid 2k march last year

I can echo the words about SWB transits. I use one for work and it's been great so far. 02 plate bought this year for £2k. It's only a 75hp model but still pulls a 2-tonne trailer. Mine is fitted with shelving etc but without it there would be room for a fold-out bed and a bike or two.

Consider if you want a bulkhead or not... possibly not if it's for sleeping in.

The SWB Transit 'looks dimensionally bigger than the HiAce?

Just worried about living with one day to day so to speak.
