Master negotiator. Without peer. Deal of the century.

Yes this is up to at least 100d chess now.

Sadly people who suffer from TDS simply dont understand the subtlety of what he is doing.

Question is whether he will step up another dimension in play and kick things off again because, well, why not?

I get out of the wrong side of bed every morning😉

My grinding negativity is what keeps me going.

So just to recap..

8 weeks ago we could use the straight and the Iranian regime hated us

8 weeks later..we can again use the straight, and the Iranian regime still hate us

Have I got that about right? (Ignoring the countless pointless innocent deaths)

You missed out the $2,000,000 per ship toll booth and legal acknowledgment that Iran controls the straights and can pretty much do what they want with it.

If a US plane takes off from UK soil tonight and takes out a desalination plant or a power station that provides the energy for a desalination plant, or a hospital or any other piece of vital civilian infrastructure we will have blood on our hands.

I agree but in the real world how could we prevent it. I don’t think Starmer saying no will cut it

I see Israel are behaving like normal and pretending the rules don’t apply to them again. Then they will have the gall to call anyone who mentions this anti Semitic

Only way to prevent it is to ban all flights of US planes from the UK, like Spain. It's what JellyMan Starmer should have done right from the start.

It's only a ceasefire, one where China pushed Iran to be more flexible. Tolls will continue because there isn't a peace agreement.

The US and Iran are a million miles apart on peace negotiations, which haven't started. The ceasefire is time to discuss stuff with both currently claiming that the other has accepted their conditions.

It's touch and go whether one of the three does something to spoil the opportunity; Israel says that Lebanon isn't included in the ceasefire and so that's ongoing and expanding

I don't think there's been any pretending for a long time. They KNOW that the rules don't apply to them and they can do what the hell they like, up to and including genocide.

They're obviously going to do to Southern Lebanon what they did to Gaza

I honestly don't think that Trump is intelligent enough to do something like this to get Epstein off the front pages. From everything I've read and seen about him, he's a moron who's incapable of any sort of strategic or tactical thinking whatsoever.

Leaving aside as plans go to hide the Epstein papers it is an insanely short term option and likely to blow back badly in the midterms so I dont think it counts as even tactical.

It doesnt need him to be thinking of things but instead people suggesting it to him.

Israel gets to launch its latest invasion mostly hidden behind the larger story plus do its time honoured tradition of killing a bunch of political enemies since that has never resulted in more extreme people taking charge.

Various of Trumps advisors have been raking in the money. Been some amazingly lucky bets recently. Although they will need to rethink the approach since everyone is expecting the "attack Friday night whilst markets are closed" and make good news announcement on monday.

I'm inclined to agree with you but the people around him grifting on the back of him are clever.

The Clintons had just testified to the Epstein committee, pressure was mounting for Trump to do the same, and in the middle of constructive negotiations with Iran he follows Israel into this appalling illegal war.

So the straight is still closed, and the entire world continues to be affected by Israel's indiscriminate bombing of innocent people

Any other country so insignificant in the grand scheme of things as Israel would have been put firmly back in their box by now. But noone does, because of course criticising then is apparently 'anti semitism'

Can you imagine any other country in the world of their stature getting away with this..

* to clarify when I say insignificant, they are a tiny country who we don't rely on for any trade. I appreciate they somehow hold massive geopolitical clout however.

So much respect for Iran..... Just read they they're not opening the straight after all as Israel is continuing to bomb Lebanon.

It's so weird when the obvious ****s in the room aren't the ones your government is telling you to hate.

Hmm, not a view I can subscribe to considering the (hundreds of?) thousands of people the Iranian regime have murdered over the years.

They're all ****s in my opinion.

Yeah I would prefer to take the leadership and cheerleaders for the regimes and stick them on an island far away from anywhere habitable to fight it out.

I wouldnt bother going back to check who won.

That’s presumably Netanyahu effectively vetoing the ceasefire.

Apparently next month Trump is going to attack Greenland, and cede Alaska to Denmark as part of the ceasefire deal.

No idea, but I'll take anything a fringe news website with a pro Russia stance and a demonstrable track record of fake and misleading propaganda says with a pinch of salt...

Cuban authorities are worried. They really dont want Florida as part of the peace deal.

JD Vance confirming overnight what everyone knew anyway.... that Netanyahu is the one pulling the strings and their desire for yet further genocide and ethnic cleansing trumps any damage being done to the global economy.

Obviously, the territorial expansionism of a war criminal must take priority over everything and if that causes an enormous global recession then so be it. That's apparently a price everyone should be prepared to pay

Because Egypt and S.A. are more than content for Israel to carry on degrading the military capability of Hezbollah Hamas and Iran. They've both released some half-hearted "Oh please will you stop" announcements on X while at the same time making it clear that they think that's a job for the United Nations. Israel is an important trade partner in the sorts of things that authoritarian dictatorships need, like security services and surveillance technology.

I will bet money that when all this is done and the dust settles, the very first thing that MBS will do will be to resurrect the 'normalisation' talks with Israel.

Ceasefire not going well is it. Straits still effectively shut, Iran claiming significant cease fire breaches, oil prices going up again and Netanyahu killing civilians with impunity, just another day of Epic Fury?

That seems to increasingly, glaringly obvious and all the NATO/European countries whi have been calling out Trump need to focus on Israel. It's not anti-semetic to oppose genocide and war crimes.

But... Criticism of _the state of Israel_ is classified as anti-semetic by the definition used by the IHRA ( https://holocaustremembrance.com/resources/working-definition-antisemitism).

So if you do not want to be called, or you country classified as, an anti-semite, then you cannot criticise Israel for what they are doing. This is, again, despite Israel (via its military) committing what are relatively obvious as being crimes, crimes against LOAC and, possibly, crimes against international law.

Catch-22?

@willard it actually doesn't, firstly it does state non legally binding and this quote

However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic

It is however anti-Semitic to compare is Israel to the Nazi's, but again, non legally binding.

Why?  They are behaving like them.  Creating ghettos, forced land grabs of people they consider inferior, two tier legal systems, expansionist wars

If anyone accused me of being antisemitic because of my views on the behaviour of the Israeli government and military, I'd just shrug and say 'OK fine'.

edit - seems I have a similar attitude to TJ on this one.

Unfortunately, there only seems to be two men on earth that Trump listens to and looks up to. Both are war criminals and let's be brutally frank... genocidal butchers. Netanyahu and Putin.

Trump won't do anything that might possibly upset either of them. In fact, he seems to do everything in his power to ensure that they can both carry on with their genocidal activities uninterrupted

If you look at the behavior of the Israeli regime then look at the dictionary definition of fascism....

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology that emerged in early 20th-century Europe, characterized by dictatorial power, centralized autocracy, militarism, and the forcible suppression of opposition. It subordinates individual interests to the state or race, promoting a natural social hierarchy and strict economic regulation.
